SALTASH RFC STATEMENT
Representatives from Saltash RFC met on Tuesday 20th October with personnel from Aldi, their planning officer and Cavendish Consulting. The purpose of the meeting was to receive an update from them on their planning application on the site below the rugby pitch at Moorlands Lane.
During the meeting, while they informed us of the progress they had made to date regarding their planning application. The Rugby Club officials present were also given opportunity to express any concerns on the club's behalf around their proposed development on the site of the lower Burraton Field.
The club officials referred to the potential impact on the rugby pitch surface due to the increase in footfall of the general public across the rugby pitch to connect with the roundabout by Pillmere, as well as the additional informal recreation that would take place (dog exercising and other informal activities) on the rugby pitch the club leases that currently takes place on the land below.
There was also a concern raised around drainage issues from the rugby pitch due to precipitation and how it would drain away under any new building development on the lower part of burraton field.
Netting on the boundary is proposed to be at 6 metres in height to stop balls kicked landing on the supermarket site, and was expressed as of insufficient height.
Saltash RFC were made aware of the proposed replacement of activity site, which would be met by Aldi, and is related to the development of an out door sporting surface at Saltash Community School to a 3G standard, which from a rugby aspect was expressed as potentially insufficient to facilitate rugby being played, so clarity was sought around its suitability. Response is awaited.
