Alef Trust

Alef Trust Alef Trust is a nonprofit higher education and community organisation promoting holistic frameworks.

The Alef Trust is a not-for-profit community interest company, registered in the UK. It fosters educational and cultural activities that emphasise transpersonal perspectives. The Alef originates as a glyph depicting an ox in the Proto-Sinaitic alphabet, and may have roots going back to the Egyptian hieroglyph of an ox’s head. The modern letter A derives from these origins, with the ox’s two horns

having become inverted over its long evolution. The connection to the ox for this, the first letter of the alphabet, emphasises the raw, untamed energy of creation and the journey towards channelling this energy into constructive directions. The spiritual connotations of this journey are exemplified by the famous ox-herding images in the Zen tradition, based in turn on an older Taoist story. In Hebrew, the Alef becomes a silent letter mystically depicting the nothingness from which all derives. It is this profound dynamic between the silence of our innermost being and the potent energy underlying all creativity that the Alef Trust seekes to foster in all its work. The Alef depicts the infinite potential that facilitates individual and collective transformation. We are partnered with Professional Development International which delivers and assesses programmes in ‘Professional Development.’ These are quality assured and awarded by Liverpool John Moores University, United Kingdom.

🕊️Caux Inner Development Goals Forum 2026: The Alchemy of Forgiveness 🕊️

Leave what is past in the past, and what is future for the future.

As part of the Caux IDG Forum: The Alchemy of Forgiveness, Alef Trust student, David Kletter, will guide an experiential outdoor workshop exploring how the harmony inherent in Nature reflects the harmony within ourselves, others, and all of life.

Through a Flow Learning progression, inspired by Joseph Cornell’s Sharing Nature activities, participants will be invited to move beyond the busyness of being a “human doing” and return to the deeper presence of being a “human being.”

Leaving the four palace walls behind, the workshop will journey into the living landscape, where trees, lakes and mountains become mirrors for reflection, connection and inner renewal.

¨With laughter, joy and embodied experience, David will explore how forgiveness begins quietly within our own hearts, and how forgiveness-for-self can become the foundation for forgiveness-for-other.¨

🎶🌈 Is science finally unlocking the healing power of sound and colour?

Join Penny Hayward for an illuminating online talk exploring the therapeutic potential of sound and colour frequencies, and the growing research behind their role in wellbeing, stress reduction, emotional balance and healing.

Long before modern medicine, mystics and healers understood that sound and colour are not simply things we perceive. They are forces that move through us, affect us, and may help bring us back into harmony.

In this session, Penny will explore ancient wisdom, emerging scientific studies, chromotherapy, sound frequencies such as 528Hz, and the deeper relationship between vibration, consciousness and healing. This Scientific and Medical Network talk will be followed by a live Q&A with Penny Hayward.

Here, we share the latest issue of the Presencing Institute´s Journal of Awareness-Based Systems Change, dedicated to Presencing the Futures of Democracy and Governance.

This edition is particuarly meaningful to Alef Trust as it marks the appointment of Dr Jessica Bockler, who joins the journal’s core editorial team as a contributing editor, bringing her depth of experience in transpersonal psychology, transformative education, consciousness studies, and systems change.

This issue explores practices of care, repair, coherence, participation, and relational governance at a time when familiar democratic and institutional arrangements are under increasing strain. Across the collection, their contributors ask how the relational conditions for democracy and governance can be cultivated, sustained, and renewed amid the rupture, uncertainty, and change within today´s world.

🌿 Share Your Work: Notes from the Field 🌿

Join us on Monday 15 June, from 15:00 to 16:30 (BST), for this month’s Fields of Change - Share Your Work session; a reflective space for slowing down, listening deeply, and witnessing the living projects, inquiries, and experiments emerging across the Fields of Change community.

This bi-monthly gathering invites members to share work-in-progress in a spirit of presence, resonance, and generative questioning. Rather than offering advice or quick solutions, we come together to co-create insight, support, and connection.

This month, we will hear from:

🌱 Fionnuala Herder-Wynne, who will share her emerging exploration into how we can consciously co-create “fields” of aliveness and possibility within groups and systems.

🌱 Nadiya Aamer, who will share the community she has lovingly built for therapists in Pakistan, weaving somatic practices, breathwork, supervision, and cross-cultural therapeutic dialogue.

Whether you are developing a community initiative, educational programme, group process, embodied practice, or inquiry into holistic change, this is a space to listen, reflect, and be inspired by what is unfolding across our wider community.

🕊️Caux Inner Development Goals Forum 2026: The Alchemy of Forgiveness 🕊️

This July, Nargis Kizalbash will be facilitating a workshop at Caux Palace in Switzerland as part of the conference The Alchemy of Forgiveness, with a workshop entitled: The Body Remembers, The Body Releases: A Somatic Pathway to Forgiveness.

When we think of forgiveness, we often approach it as a mental or moral act. We try to forgive through understanding, reason, or willpower. Yet many of us discover that despite our best intentions, something within us continues to hold on.

The body remembers.

It remembers loss, betrayal, disappointment, fear, and hurt. These experiences are not only held in memory, but can also be carried in our muscles, posture, breathing patterns, and nervous system.

In this experiential workshop, participants will explore how the body can become a doorway to healing and forgiveness. Through somatic awareness, reflection, and gentle practices, they will learn how to recognise what is being held and create the conditions for release.

¨Forgiveness is not about forgetting, excusing, or condoning. It is about freeing ourselves from the burden of carrying what no longer serves life.¨

🦋 Deep Dive Masterclass with Staci Haines: Embodied Transformation: Shaping Social Change 🦋

In this experiential online session, we will explore what it means to engage in personal and social transformation at the same time, recognising that our hopes, fears, struggles and longings are deeply shaped by the social conditions in which we live.

Together, we will reflect on safety, belonging and dignity, while examining how survival strategies can sometimes stand in the way of the change we seek. This is a powerful opportunity to explore embodied transformation, social change and the practice of holding complexity as a resource for our times.

Staci Haines brings more than 30 years of experience at the intersection of trauma healing, embodied leadership, transformative justice and politicised somatics. She is the author of The Politics of Trauma: Somatics, Healing and Social Justice and Healing S*x, and is widely recognised for her work in supporting social and climate justice leaders and movements.

🕊️ Caux Inner Development Goals Forum 2026: The Alchemy of Forgiveness 🕊️

This July, Alef Trust faculty will join the Caux Inner Development Goals Forum in Switzerland for a five-day gathering exploring forgiveness, inner transformation, collective healing and renewed connection.

As part of the programme, Dr Bethany Butzer, and Dr Laurel Waterman will co-host a candlelight conversation exploring a powerful question: can the study of consciousness deepen our capacity for compassion, empathy and forgiveness?

This conversation will invite participants into shared dialogue around whether transformations of consciousness can support forgiveness, repair and reconciliation in a world that urgently needs all three.

“I’ve noticed something interesting that tends to happen when students take university-level courses on consciousness. In many cases, students report an inner transformation, where they start to feel more interconnected with other humans, animals, plants, and even the universe itself.” - Dr Bethany Butzer

Consciousness and Education: Why Consciousness Matters for the Future of Education

What if consciousness is not simply produced by the brain, but is fundamental to reality itself? And what might this mean for the future of education?

This two-day conference invites educators, researchers, practitioners and change-makers to explore how emerging post-materialist perspectives are reshaping our understanding of mind, reality and what it means to be human. As debates in science and philosophy increasingly question reductive assumptions about consciousness, the implications for educational theory and practice are both profound and urgent.

Drawing on insights from across science, philosophy and the humanities, the programme will examine how a deeper understanding of consciousness can transform our approaches to knowledge, learning, agency and meaning. Participants will be encouraged to reflect critically on prevailing models of education and to consider new possibilities grounded in a more expansive view of human potential.

The conference features talks and workshops led by distinguished Alef Trust faculty members, including:

Joan Walton
Jessica Bockler
Laurel Waterman

Hosted at York St John University, this gathering offers a rich opportunity for dialogue, collaboration and intellectual renewal at a time when education systems worldwide are under pressure to evolve.

If you are concerned with the deeper foundations of learning and the role of consciousness in shaping the future of society, this conference will provide both rigorous inquiry and practical reflection.
