There has been a recent increase in vandalism in the village, particularly at the recreation ground.

The new lighting bollards along the footpath have been smashed twice, the fire pit has been demolished, and the MUGA surface has been deliberately damaged by burning. Repairs to the MUGA alone are expected to cost around £5,000.

The Parish Council is working hard to improve facilities for residents, so it is extremely disappointing to see community assets being damaged in this way. These facilities are provided for everyone to enjoy, and paying for repairs means we have less money to make other improvements.

If your children or young people use the recreation ground, please speak to them about using the space safely and respectfully.

If you witness vandalism or damage taking place, please report it to Essex Police. Where it is safe to do so, photographs of the damage, and of those responsible, may assist with any investigation.

Please report incidents via 101 or online, quoting the location and time. The postcode at the rec is CB113PU.

Today a flyer was delivered by Vistry to households in Newport outlining a proposed planning application for 300 dwellings to the West of Newport. This site is *not* the preferred location of the site allocations in the emerging Newport, Quendon and Rickling Neighbourhood Plan.

Newport Parish Council had a briefing from Vistry last Friday afternoon 8th May where they explained that they would be starting the public consultation today and intend to submit the planning application in three weeks time. Our notes from the presentation:

- Master plan in flyer is not changed from the public consultation last year, minimal changes in revised masterplan as presented to PC, which is still being worked on by Vistry
- Road access for all 300 houses is proposed from a new access on London Road south of Bricketts
- Community consultation leaflets going out Monday 11 May
- Application submission in three weeks (outline only)
- Hub to be retained
- Pedestrian access proposed near allotments and Harcamlow Way plus bridleway (so no new footpaths other than at new access on London Road)
- Noise mitigation is proposed to be achieved through 3m/10ft fence adjacent to M11 also via blocks of flats (mixed tenure)
- 35% affordable to be pepper potted through site
- Highways and drainage discussions held with ECC, no pre-app with UDC or quality review panel
- Not clear how surface water drainage to be achieved, discussion regarding culverts under London Road

We'll see more detail once the formal application submission is made in 3 weeks time at which point the Parish Council will prepare a statutory response.
