The Post Code Choir The artist must have an intense inner life; that your thoughts are noble, harmonious and positive. Live a little above reality.

Ask any of our members what keeps them coming back and you'll usually hear about more than just the singing.

Geoffrey put it well when talking about what he'd tell someone on the fence: "being in the choir gives you opportunities to occasionally sing with the choir at social events and concerts."

Rehearsal is where the friendships and the harmonies get built, but every so often, that work turns into something you get to share with an audience.

It's one of the nicest surprises for anyone who joins expecting "just" a weekly sing-along.

You'd think singing the same set with three different choirs would feel the same each time. Not according to Geoffrey.

His take: "Although what is being sung is usually the same, each choir has a different dynamic and each individual singer within the choir has their own style and personalities... my voice mixes differently with different choir members."

Every room really does have its own chemistry: the people you're stood next to change how the whole thing sounds and feels.

It's one of those things you only really understand once you've tried more than one session.

Geoffrey travels all the way from Medway to Shooters Hill just to sing with SE18 Choir and that's on top of his sessions at ME4 Choir and ME7 at Night back home.

That's not a short trip for an hour and a half of rehearsal.

When something's worth that kind of journey, it tells you everything about how it feels once you're in the room.

Wherever you are between Medway and Shooters Hill, there's a session close enough that you won't need Geoffrey's dedication to get there.

We asked one of our long-standing members, Geoffrey, why he sings with three different groups instead of picking just one.

His answer stuck with us: "I do three sessions a week because I love singing and I don't feel doing just one choir is enough for me. I believe that singing improves my health."

We hear this more than you'd think: singing isn't just something people enjoy, it's something that genuinely helps.

If you've been wondering whether one session a week might do you good, imagine what three could do.

Every single one of our choirs started as a room full of strangers.

Six months in, it's tea breaks, in-jokes, and people asking after each other's weeks before rehearsal's even started.

That's the bit nobody tells you about when they think "choir" – it's not really about hitting the right note, it's about who you end up sitting next to.

If you've been putting off trying a session because you'd be walking in alone, don't. Everyone in that room walked in alone once too.

Free taster session, no auditions – find your group at www.thepostcodechoir.com.

There's something about the nights drawing in that makes a day feel that bit heavier.

Good news: rehearsal is the easiest fix we know.

An hour and a half of singing with people who are properly pleased to see you does wonders for shaking off the week ahead.

Whether you're an old hand or you've just been meaning to try it, ME4, ME7 at Night, and SE18 choirs are all running as normal this week: first session's free, no pressure to come back if it's not for you.

Over the last couple of weeks we've shared some lovely moments from our chat with Gloria and the SE18 choir members about what makes Friday afternoons at Shrewsbury House so special.

But here's the thing: that same magic isn't just happening in SE18.

Head over to Medway and you'll find exactly the same warmth, the same welcome, and the same "just come and see" spirit at ME7 Choir, ME7 at Night, and ME4 Choir.

Different rooms, different days, same feeling: no auditions, no pressure, just people finding their voice alongside good company.

Wherever you are, there's a session waiting for you and a free taster to go with it.

Ask our SE18 members what happens after rehearsal, and you'll get one very British answer: "And we go for a cup of tea."

Because choir was never just about the singing – as they put it, "it really is about singing together and a community just feel-good. It's supposed to be enjoyed."

That's the bit people don't always expect: the friendships, the chat, the cuppa after.

If that sounds like your kind of Friday, come try a free taster session with us. Fridays 1:00–2:30pm at Shrewsbury House.

We get asked a lot: "What if I try it and don't like it?"

Gloria's answer, from our Shrewscast chat, says everything you need to know: "Just come. We have always a taster session for people to feel not under pressure to stay with us. Come have a go: you like it, you stay; you don't like it, that's okay as well."

That's the whole approach here: no pressure, no upfront commitment, just an open door. Come along Fridays, 1:00–2:30pm at Shrewsbury House, and see how it feels.

There's a lot of talk these days about looking after your mental health, and honestly, our choir members put it better than we ever could.

When asked if singing really is a feel-good thing, the answer was unanimous: "We all come out of here smiling and feeling so much better."

Sometimes the simplest things make the biggest difference.

If your week could do with a boost like that, come find out for yourself – your first session is free. Fridays 1:00–2:30pm at Shrewsbury House.
