📢 Launching ‘Voice It!’ - Community conversations shaping services in RCT.

RCT HDRC have launched Voice It! - a new community engagement initiative from RCT HDRC, delivered with the Community Voice Team and Interlink partners.

This series of community clinics and pop-up events is designed to create safe, accessible spaces for residents to share their lived experiences and help shape local services and research priorities within the Council.

The first phase focuses on Access to Services, exploring how people:
• Contact and interact with the Council
• Experience those interactions
• Would like services to improve

At the heart of Voice It! is a commitment to co-production, inclusivity, and using community insight to inform decision-making.
They will be engaging residents through informal conversations in everyday community spaces, supported by creative activities to encourage participation across all ages and backgrounds.

What is Managing Better?
Our dedicated and trusted caseworkers can visit you and provide free advice and practical support to help you live as independently as possible.

Managing Better is a free home visiting service offering advice and practical help for people over the age of 50. It is for those who have sight or hearing loss, for deaf people, people living with dementia and people who have survived a stroke.

How we can help you:
• A free Health Home Check for your home
• Help you reduce risk of falls and injury at home
• Help to assist you to live independently and safely
• Check what benefits you’re entitled to and help you apply for them
• Help you access useful services and connect you with our partner agencies

Get Involved: Healthy Homes Appeal 😊

Our Healthy Homes Appeal is off to a fantastic start with lots of great fundraising activity already underway. From half-marathons, cake bake sales, skydiving, World Cup Sweepstake, walking challenges to fancy dress bike rides, supporters are getting involved in creative and fun ways. The Care & Repair Cymru team are walking 3,300 miles by the end of June 🚶‍♂️

Now it’s your turn to get involved. Whether at work or with friends and family, you can have fun while helping older people in Wales stay safe, warm and independent in their own homes.

It’s a sad fact that right now, in Wales, there are many older and vulnerable people living in cold, damp, and unsafe homes because they simply cannot afford essential repairs. This puts lives at risk, causes mental health challenges and makes existing health problems worse. But with your support we can make homes healthier and give people dignity, stability, and hope.

We’re asking for your help. Could you:

• Organise a fundraising event for your work colleagues or friends, such as a cake sale, coffee morning, sponsored challenge, World cup Sweepstake or a skydive.

Join Brian our Income Maximisation Officer in Treorchy Library for drop-in benefit support 9.30am to 1pm tomorrow Friday 12th June.

Every year millions of pounds in Wales are lost because people do not claim all the social security and welfare benefits that they are entitled to. Many people are able to claim extra financial help but aren't aware of what's out there for them.

If you need advice and help in applying for welfare benefits. and you are over the age of 60, own your home or private renting then please pop in to have a chat!

Free Accessible Carbon Monoxide Alarms for People Aged 50+ 📢
Are you aged 50+ and living with hearing loss or are Deaf? You may be eligible for a free specialist carbon monoxide (CO) alarm.
Carbon monoxide is an odourless, colourless, and invisible gas that can pose a serious risk to health and safety. Older people and those with existing health conditions can be particularly vulnerable.
Standard CO alarms rely on sound, which may not be suitable if you are Deaf or have hearing loss.
That’s why Care & Repair Cymru and Wales & West Utilities are working together to provide specialist vibrating and visual carbon monoxide alarms to those who need them most.
The specialist vibrating and visual CO alarms will be distributed as part of the Managing Better Project, a free home visiting service offering advice and practical help for people over the age of 50 who have hearing loss, sight loss, dementia, or have had a stroke.
