Making Your Home Safer 🏠
There are many types of adaptations that can help make your home safer. If you struggle with balance or mobility, one or more of these could make everyday life easier.
🔹 Minor adaptations
These are small, relatively low-cost changes that can usually be fitted quickly, such as handrails, grab rails, and banisters. Other helpful items include key safes, sofa raisers, and shower seats.
🔹 Major adaptations
These involve larger changes to your home, such as ramps, wet rooms, level-access doors, or moving doorways or toilets. These often take several days or weeks to complete and have a high cost

We welcome the UK Government’s decision to scrap standing charges on gas bills from 2027.

For too long, we have campaigned alongside others including National Energy Action and Age Cymru against standing charges, which have pushed thousands of older people into fuel poverty. Knowing this change will come will bring relief to vulnerable households right across Wales.

However, with energy prices predicted to reach over £2,000 in January 2027, we know that this is not enough to support households in fuel poverty. We call on the UK Government to implement a social tariff, to complement the removal of standing charges and make a meaningful difference to even more low income and vulnerable households. We also need to ensure that the unit rates do not increase as a result, otherwise this is simply pushing the problem from one billing option to another and harming higher-usage households, which disproportionately includes older and disabled people.
