Sometimes support starts with having someone to talk to.

Today, on , we’re reminded just how important it is to make space for honest conversations – to listen, to notice when someone may be struggling, and to make it easier to ask for help.

Changing the narrative around su***de isn’t only about the conversations we have in a crisis. It’s about building communities where people feel less alone and know there is support around them.

At Rainham Foodbank, that’s part of why our work goes beyond food.

Our Counselling service offers people a safe, confidential space to talk through what they’re experiencing, while our Befriending service provides connection and a listening ear for people who may be feeling isolated or alone.

Sometimes people need practical help. Sometimes they need someone to listen. Often, they need both.

30km Together is about more than completing a distance.

People often come to Rainham Foodbank because they need food. But food alone doesn’t solve the challenges that brought someone through our doors.

That’s why our support goes further – through counselling, befriending, wellbeing activities, employability support and opportunities to learn, connect and rebuild confidence.

One person who accessed our counselling told us:
“I have a more positive mindset and I am more self-aware. I can manage my emotions and reactions better.”

What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of relaxed and friendly sessions where people can explore life's big questions and share their thoughts in an open and welcoming environment.

Each session includes refreshments, a short video and plenty of opportunity for conversation. There’s no pressure and no need to know anything about faith beforehand – whether you’re curious, have questions or simply fancy coming along to find out more, you’ll be very welcome.
