What a great afternoon Saturday turned out to be. Pulborough Shedders really enjoyed supporting the Summer fete at St Mary’ Primary School in Pulborough. The sun shone, the crowds came and there was an almost constant queue from the many people who fancied their chances of splatting our rat! The afternoon also gave us the opportunity to chat to many about what it is that Pulborough Shedders get up to, and what we are trying to achieve.

Two big “Thank you’s from Pulborough Shedders!!

The first is a thank you to Steve, (shown on the right in the photo) He is a Shedder and an extremely skilled retired electrician. Steve used to do work on the big stuff, like sub stations. Anyway he spent many hours completely upgrading our Shed’s electrical systems.

The second thank you is to Trevor who is a currently qualified electrician. Trevor checked all of Steve’s work, issuing a Certificate of Compliance completely free of charge and complimenting Steve on his high standards.

The ongoing support which we receive from so many people gives us a real boost. Thank you !

The photo shows Derek, one of our regular Shedders celebrating his 80th birthday in our Thakeham Shed.

As Pulborough Shedders continue our mission to embrace 21st century technology we thought we would ask an AI app what it is that is special about an 80th birthday. It told us the following….

Reaching 80 is seen as a remarkable achievement — a testament to resilience, strength, and a life rich with experiences. Many cultures treat it as a moment of honour and respect for elders.

We would like to fully endorse the App’s comments. Happy Birthday Derek.
Pulborough Shedders welcome anyone and everyone over the age of 18. We meet twice weekly. Full details can be found on our website www.Pulboroughshedders.org

The photo shows “ Shedder Mike” who is currently renovating a 1930’s German built Pionier collapsible canoe. Those in the know cannot fail to spot the obvious Bavarian craftsmanship in the design!! As always, fellow Shedders were very much in the know and were keen to advise Mike on all aspects of the Pionier canoes’ construction and it’s part in history.

Mike aims to have his craft up and runnng again in the near future. That’s part of the attraction of the Shed. You never know what project will turn up.

Pulborough Shedders meet every Wednesday and Friday morning, and welcome new members. DIY experience is absolutely not required! We just hope to attract people who will give anything a go and get stuck in. Full details can be found on our website www.Pulboroughshedders.org

What did the Romans ever do for us ??… A question fiercely debated today over Morning Tea in the Shed. Apparently Britain had advanced drainage systems in place long before the Romans ever came to stay. Grudgingly, and with great reluctance, a few Shedders had to accept that this was news to them.

But drains outside the Shed this morning were not flowing as freely as the conversation, and one of the main activities was to try to unblock them. Whilst everyone knew precisely what needed to be done, it turned out to be a team effort which won the day. All of this activity was in preparation for the very kind offer by Peter Kaffo (GRL Plumbing and Services) to put us, free of charge onto mains water this weekend.

If you fancy learning some new facts, and getting stuck in to whatever is happening, then Pulborough Shedders look forward to offering you a warm welcome. We meet on Wednesday and Friday mornings. Full details can be found on our website www.Pulboroughshedders.org

A story of long lost cousins…. Read on…..

The photo shows Tim (Pulborough Shedders) and Kit from Ontario in Canada. They are cousins but lost touch with each other over 70 years ago. Following some online investigations, the two of them made contact. Kit is currently travelling through the country and of course made the journey down to our neck of the woods to meet Tim.

Pulborough Shedders were lucky enough to meet Kit and welcome her into our Shed for a morning. She explained that she loves becoming involved in practical projects, and in particular making artistic boxes for one of her local charities back in Canada. While Men’s Sheds do operate in Ontario, they are strictly for men only. It was lovely to meet Kit and hear of her experiences.

Pulborough Shedders are recruiting new members, and welcome anyone and everyone over the age of 18. If you think that Shedding may be for you, then please just turn up at one of our sessions ( Wednesday and Friday morning. 09.30 to 12.30). You can be assured that you will receive a warm welcome, a mug of tea and probably more advice than you can poke a stick at.

Full details can be found on our website www.Pulboroughshedders.org.

Pulborough Shedders were joined this morning by Peter and Josh from GRL Plumbing and Services who operate out of Billingshurst. Peter and Josh are the younger, fresher and less cynical two who appear in the centre of the photograph…..(But sadly it wasn’t necessary to explain that.)

Peter is the Managing Director and has been a huge supporter of Pulborough Shedders since our early days. On a couple of occasions he has made substantial donations which have helped us to continue operating. He is now installing a mains water supply into our new Thakeham Shed, entirely at his own expense.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Peter. His kindness and belief in us makes a massive difference. We know that he is an extremely busy man, no doubt because of the quality service offered by GRL Plumbing and Services.

What three words?? General unhappiness amongst Shedders this morning on hearing about this this new fangled technology. After all it will never compete with a sturdy map book. But excitement slowly grew as Shedders learned that every square metre (yard and a bit) at the entrance to the Shed has a unique name. This gave nine possible combinations for our forecourt alone. Many many opinions were aired, and two of the nine choices were finally agreed upon so that we could update our website:

CLOSED . BRAINS. DEFAULTS: (South east corner of our courtyard) But this seemed a little uninspiring and certainly not representative of the newfound desire to embrace technology.

ATTITUDES. LINGERING. ABSORB : (Centre of the courtyard) seemed far more appropriate and was adopted with great enthusiasm.

Pulborough Shedders welcome new members. We can be found just North of Thakeham at Townhouse Farm (On the Coolham Road). If you look at our website, www.Pulboroughshedders.org you’ll find a map with directions and our location on.

The photo shows members of Pulborough Shedders enjoying the sunshine for the first time on their own little patch of paradise – The ‘Sun Terrace’ at the Thakeham Shed. With boosted levels of Vitamin D, conversation flourished, and grumbles and groans were noticeably less than usual. Even even medical issues took a back burner - A significant achievement in itself!

Our new base is quickly taking shape and it is wonderful to again see new faces joining us.
