Founded and run by neurodivergent volunteers with lived experience, SBSC is a community group dedicated to supporting parent carers of individuals with special educational needs and disabilities.

This week is Carers Week.

To every parent sitting in meetings, writing emails, fighting for support, calming meltdowns, surviving sleepless nights, and carrying worries nobody else sees...

We see you.

Behind every attendance figure, behaviour report, or school refusal statistic is a family trying their best.

Many parents aren’t refusing to engage with the system.

They’re trying to keep their child safe while navigating a system that often doesn’t understand what their child is experiencing.

If nobody has told you recently:

You’re doing better than you think.

Happy Carers Week.

***URGENT*** National Media appeal. We need to hear from you today.

Measure what Matters is supporting an urgent, active and high-profile investigation by a national media partner into maladministration and serious local authority failures in SEND.

‼️ We urgently need a family who can speak today and MUST be available for filming tomorrow ‼️
_____________________________

We are looking for cases involving all three of the following:

1. Repeated, significant and ongoing delays to securing support including assessment and issuing of an EHC Plan,

2. Spurious refusal to assess — where the decision was unsupported by evidence, the school, and subsequently overturned,

3. A child or young person *currently* being impacted — out of school, on a significantly reduced timetable, or in mental health crisis as a direct result of those delays to support
_____________________________

This work is being undertaken by a national media outlet- the media team will be able to provide support throughout.

If this is your situation, please contact us immediately via direct message providing a brief outline summary of your current circumstances and the Local Authority this relates to.

Please note: We will do our best to respond to everyone who contacts us, but given the urgency of this opportunity we may need to prioritise cases that most closely match the criteria above. Getting in touch does not guarantee participation, but rest assured that this work forms part of a wider ongoing national investigative journalism program and your testimony will remain extremely valuable to our wider work.
