We had a brilliant time at our annual beaver Rally. The rain stayed off and the children had so much fun! Each and every one was a pleasure to be with. We will all sleep well tonight 💤

The Cub Scout Law says that “Cub Scouts always do their best, think of others before themselves and do a good turn every day”, so this evening we decided to do a litter pick around the hedgerows and tree lines in the village to help the local wildlife. We filled our bags with all manner of rubbish and hope it helps the animals and insects to thrive this Summer. As a reward for their hard work the Cubs had a hot dog and juice supper…well done everyone ♻️🐰🦋🐦‍⬛🐞⚜️

This evening our Cubs continued their Gardening badge by weeding our raised beds and planting vegetable seeds to replace the parsnips that the Beavers grew last year. We were able to salvage some decent parsnips and made a quick batch of curried parsnip soup for the youngsters to try. The taste test offered a full spectrum of opinions with some pulling impressive “yuck” faces to others lapping it up and asking for the recipe 😂. Well done to everyone for trying it and for the amazing effort in tidying up the vegetable patch 💪🏻🥣🌱🥬 👨🏼‍🌾

Our Cubs enjoyed a session in the sunshine last night as we continued our Gardening badgework. They did a minibeast scavenger hunt discovering all the creepy crawlies that help our gardens flourish and then we built a bug hotel. We scattered wild flower seeds around it and look forward to seeing what insects and pollinators it attracts 🐞🐛🦋🕷️🪲🌸🌼🌻

Our Cubs are currently looking at the Global Issue of Climate Change and ways that individuals and countries can reduce the impact of global warming. They have been set a challenge to try and identify ways to reduce their family’s carbon footprint at home by looking at electricity use, water use and waste disposal habits.

All our Cubs received their Local Knowledge badges after each submitting a wonderful coat of arms. Their work was amazing and ideas were taken from each one to make a Gilford Scouts Coat of Arms that we will try to have made into a badge. Everyone received a prize for such thoughtful and creative artwork 🤩🤩🤩
