The We Are Ports Walking & Social Group were delighted to welcome former BBC News reporter & Portadown Times journalist Gordon Adair as their special guest speaker this morning.

After the group had their Tuesday morning walk down the Brownstown road they settled down with a cup of coffee as Gordon spoke about his journalism experiences as well as his recent BBC podcasts, his battle with Parkinson's and his new book entitled 'The Map' which focuses on a huge map in one of the most secretive places in Northern Ireland, the Joint Operations Planning Room for South Armagh. The map showed the rugged, hilly terrain of what was then, if you were a British soldier or a police officer, the most dangerous posting in the world.

He also reminisced about the 1991 Irish Cup Final and how he feels Ian Curliss is one of the finest players ever to play for the club.

A reminder that the We Are Ports Walking & Social Group is open to everyone and we thank Gordon for coming along this morning.

Due to power now having being restored to the vast majority of the area we have made the decision to stand our volunteers down at the Shamrock Park for the rest of the week.

We are thankful that not many needed to take up our offer of help over the past few days but We Are Ports felt it was important to be there for our members, supporters & the community during these difficult few days in the aftermath of Storm Éowyn.

If any of members of the community do still require any assistance in dealing with any issues as a result of still not having electricity then please reach out to us.

With a lot of our members, supporters & residents in the local & surrounding areas still without power due to Storm Éowyn, the We Are Ports committee have contacted the club to organise the boardroom at Shamrock Park as a community hub to come between 12pm & 2pm from Monday 27th January to Fri 31st January to keep warm, charge devices, grab a cup of coffee and to fill up flasks with hot water.

Members of the We Are Ports committee will be on hand to help & assist anyone that needs to avail of the afore mentioned facilities and do what we can to get through this difficult time until all power is restored.
