🌕 Vap Full-Moon Day: The Discipline that Sustains the Sāsana (the Buddha’s Dispensation)

The conclusion of the three-month Vassa (Rains Retreat) through Mahā-Pavāraṇā (the Great Invitation to Admonition) is more than the completion of a monastic observance; it is a renewed commitment to the Buddha’s path of discipline, mutual correction, harmony, and spiritual purification.

The enduring strength of the Sāsana rests not merely upon the passage of time, but upon the faithful observance of the Vinaya (monastic discipline) and the practice and transmission of the Dhamma (the Buddha’s teachings) by successive generations of monastics.

The arrival of the sacred Kaṭhina Robe further reminds us of the profound bond between the Saṅgha and the lay community in sustaining the Buddha’s dispensation.

May the purity of the Vinaya, the harmony of the Saṅgha, and the wisdom of the Dhamma endure for the welfare and liberation of generations to come.

Thank you! 🙏

🍃 The Dhamma Day | Reflecting on the Spirit of Pavāraṇā 2026

Pavāraṇā reminds us that the path to purification begins with the humility to acknowledge our own shortcomings and the willingness to welcome sincere correction from others. True spiritual growth lies not in concealing our faults, but in recognising and rectifying them with wisdom and compassion.

May this spirit of mutual respect, moral discipline, and self-reflection strengthen the harmony between the Saṅgha and the laity, ensuring the continued flourishing of the Dhamma and Vinaya for the welfare and happiness of many.

Thank you! 🙏

🍃 The Extraordinary in the Ordinary: A Reflection on Mahā Pavāraṇā

On this Vap Full-Moon Day, as we conclude the three-month Rains Retreat (Vassa) through the *Mahā Pavāraṇā* — the Great Invitation to mutual correction and purification — we are reminded that the Buddha’s path to liberation often lies in the simplest aspects of life.

In our pursuit of the extraordinary, we may overlook the awakening available here and now. Rather than endlessly seeking what lies ahead, let us turn inward and discover the truth in this very moment. For in seeing deeply within, we may begin to comprehend the boundless reality of existence.

Through our practice of virtue, may all beings — seen and unseen — be well, happy, peaceful, and free from suffering.

Thank you! 🙏

With mettā,
Rev Wadigala Samitharathana

🍃 The Dhamma Day | 11 October 2026

This week, we reflect on Sammā Kammanta, or Right Action, the fourth factor of the Noble Eightfold Path. The Buddha explains three essential ethical principles: abstaining from taking life, taking what is not given, and sexual misconduct.

How can these timeless teachings guide our actions, relationships, and responsibilities in modern life?

Join us as we explore how Right Action cultivates compassion, honesty, and respect for others, contributing to both inner peace and a more harmonious society.

Thank you! 🙏

🌿 The Dhamma Day | 4 October 2026

In this Dhamma Day reflection, we explore the Buddha’s teachings on Right Livelihood ( Sammā Ājīva) and consider how they can guide our choices in the workplace and in modern everyday life.

Can our work become a way of cultivating wisdom, compassion, and benefit for others?

May our livelihood support not only our own well-being, but also the well-being of those around us.

Thank you! 🙏

🌿 The Dhamma Day | 26 September 2026 | Sammā Vāyāma (Right Effort)

On this Binara Full Moon Day, we reflect on Sammā Vāyāma, the sixth factor of the Noble Eightfold Path, and the fourfold effort to prevent and abandon unwholesome qualities while cultivating and sustaining what is wholesome.

May we learn to direct our energy wisely towards the cultivation of a peaceful and wholesome mind.

Thank you! 🙏
