As part of CJS Focus on Animals and Wildlife we revisit an article from British Red Squirrel and find out about some of the damage grey squirrels are causing.

It's National Great Outdoors Month!

We are so lucky here in the UK to have so much beautiful nature on our doorstep. June is a fantastic time to enjoy the UK's woodlands, with birds, insects and mammals all active as summer gets underway.

Every visit to a local woodland is a reminder of why protecting these habitats matters. 💚

A third of British children don’t even know red squirrels still exist in the UK, and one in ten can’t identify one from a photograph.

That should concern all of us.

Red squirrels are one of Britain’s most iconic native species, yet many children are growing up without ever learning about them, while invasive non-native grey squirrels continue to dominate much of the country and increasingly shape our children’s idea of what a “British squirrel” looks like.

Once numbering in the millions, our native reds are now confined to only a handful of remaining strongholds.

If future generations are going to protect Britain’s wildlife, they first need to know it exists. We should be teaching our children about native species, conservation, and the importance of protecting what remains before it disappears forever.
