We want to hear your views on a range of topics and issues that rel

There is an important issue currently being looked at by the Veterinary Medicines Directorate around flea and tick treatments and it could have wider implications for pet businesses and owners.

The focus is on environmental impact, but any changes to how these products are supplied could affect:

1) how easy it is for owners to access treatments
2) where they go for advice
3) what happens when pets aren’t treated effectively

From pet groomers and boarders dealing with untreated pets, to retailers supporting owners every day, this is something that affects the whole sector.

The Pet Industry Federation is gathering feedback from members to help represent real-world experiences and concerns.

If you’re a PIF member, please take a few minutes to complete your survey. You will have received one this week and you will get a reminder later this week. We need your input!

There’s also an opportunity for anyone to share their views directly with the VMD:

Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) - DEFRA's new Animal Welfare Strategy for England has been published. We know many of you will be asking what it means for your business. We're pleased to see that:

- Companion animals have been recognised as a policy priority
- There is a focus on supporting responsible pet ownership, education and awareness
- There is a commitment to clearer, more consistent licensing and enforcement, specifically, the Animal Activities Licensing Regulations 2018.
- There is recognition that industry bodies play a key role in delivering practical change

We emailed members this lunchtime with a summary; and have produced a PIF member briefing highlighting the parts most relevant to pet businesses, licensing and enforcement.

We will continue to work with the Canine & Feline Sector Group and through our own consultation responses to ensure members' views are put forward. Access the briefing in the PIF members' area: https://petfederation.co.uk/login/

You can read the full strategy document on DEFRA's website: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/animal-welfare-strategy-for-england
