Northampton Town FC is debt free following today's confirmation of the 70 per cent investment in holding company Northampton Town Ventures by Sports Alpha Capital.
This is excellent news and we look forward to further detail about the new owners Sports Alpha Capital, the club's new board of directors and future plans.

🇧🇷 We are delighted to confirm that Sports Alpha Capital have completed the acquisition of a 70% shareholding in Northampton Town Ventures Limited, the company which owns the majority shareholding in the club.

It is still early days but the team's position near the foot of League Two is a clear and obvious concern.

The Cobblers are due a win against Rotherham, having lost the last seven league meetings between the two sides.
They also lost the March 1992 meeting, in the days of Steve Terry and a certain market trader from Kenilworth called Michael McRitchie.

Agreement reached, completion next week!

🤝 We are pleased to confirm that agreement has been reached with UK/Brazilian investment group Sports Alpha Capital regarding a proposed shareholding acquisition.

✍️ The necessary paperwork is now being circulated to the relevant parties, and the club and SAC expect to be in a position to confirm completion of the process next week.

Today's visit to Shrewsbury evokes memories of one match in Salop for older Cobblers fans, the emotional rollercoaster of a comeback victory on 8 May 1993.
But the FA Cup tie at Gay Meadow seven years later, which the Cobblers lost, is something of a curiosity.
It was played on 30 October 1999, the early days of the reign of the two Kevs - Wilson and Broadhurst.
It was the season in which the FA tinkered with the fixture list and brought FA Cup first round games forward.
So as the autumn leaves swirled around the riverside ground, the Cobblers found themselves dumped out of the FA Cup before the end of October.
Postscript: the FA experiment lasted one season! The Cobblers concentrated on the league and turned round a poor start to win promotion.

Carnaval at Sixfields this afternoon as the Cobblers, after 20 league games without a win, beat Newport County with a late winner from Joe O'Brien- Whitmarsh!

A September home game against the Exiles of Newport County back in 1969 and a 4-1 victory for the Cobblers.
Frank Large led the way with a double, and there were also goals for John Fairbrother and Graham Felton.
Same result today would do nicely!
