Congratulations to lovely local pub, The Dolphin, on King Edward Road, on its recent, very impressive makeover.

It’s said to be one of the longest-standing surviving inns in North Tyneside, dating back to at least the early 1800s. Recently it’s undergone a major refurbishment and is definitely worth checking out, with its fresh new look, festive menu and ‘Winter Warmer Specials’.

Not technically in North Shields, but worth the walk, we reckon!

Pop into North Shields library on Thursday to see ‘A Cabinet of Curiosities’ from Michael Turner!

Amassed over 40 years, Michael's collection includes fossils, skulls, Victorian butterflies, dinosaur teeth, corals, shells, insects, feathers and many other fascinating artefacts from around the world.

Thursday 29th October • 11am-1pm
North Shields Library, Northumberland Square
Free, drop-in event

No need to book this one, just turn up and see what you can discover!

Just a reminder, if you’re heading into town this week, that there are no trains running between St James and Monkseaton (through North Shields) in both directions until Monday 2nd November, to allow for improvement works. A replacement bus service 900 is calling at or close to all stations but journeys will inevitably take longer.

The Tyne Bridge is also closed to all vehicles, pedestrians and cyclists until 5am on Monday 2nd November, to allow for more scaffolding to be put up, so the traffic leading to the other bridges is heavier and likely to be backed up.

The Meadows Community Centre are looking for donations to transform the Community Centre into a Winter Wonderland. If you have any spare Christmas decorations, lights, tinsel, baubles or the like in good working order, they would be very much appreciated. Also any gifts, selection boxes or bottle bags for the Christmas Fair raffle on Saturday 28th November.

You can drop them off at The Meadows Reception, Waterville Road, North Shields.
