On Saturday some of the Society took a trip up the Shankill to the new Long Kesh inside out centre .The new centre gives you a great insight into the men's living conditions in the compounds and what they had to go through and were the seeds for the peace process were formed .

Thanks to Bobby for guiding us round the centre. With his knowledge and lived experience of the compounds and his stories from over the years it made it a great afternoon .Any groups looking to go get in contact with the centre it's worth the trip up .🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

You have to ask yourself what is the point in this protest or who is even organising it or what's their end goals .It's seems someone has took it upon themselves to make a poster get people to turn up and they sit back .We went along last night and there was a great turnout in Ards but nobody really knew what was happening nobody speaking at it or even a banner .Just people standing about wondering whats happening now.

Think it's time for people to organise properly and hold meaningful protests at stormont and start holding our elected representatives accountable for the state this country is in .What will everyone closing their businesses actually do .And having a protest in the middle of the afternoon will achieve nothing but turn people away .

EAST BELFAST MEMORIAL PARADE – SATURDAY 13TH JUNE 2026

The East Belfast Memorial Committee would like to remind everyone that our annual Memorial Parade takes place this Saturday evening.

A short service of remembrance will be held at our Memorial Garden on Cherryville Street at 6:00pm, before the parade moves off from the Belvoir Bar, Newtownards Road, at 7:00pm.

We are aware that there are other events taking place on the same day and evening, including parades in Mid Ulster and Carrickfergus for the Royal Landing commemorations. However, we hope that many friends, supporters and bands will still make every effort to attend and support our parade.

Over the past few years, the East Belfast Memorial Committee has gone out of its way to support and attend as many memorial parades and remembrance services as possible throughout the country. We sincerely hope that the same support will be shown to us in return as we gather to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

All bands are welcome to attend.

Can we please ask that there be no more dumping at the bonfire for the time being .We are hoping the telehandlier will be here this week and the boys looking to get what's there cleared first . Also can we ask if its your kids round at the bonfire to tell them to keep it tidy instead of tipping pallets everywhere.

All being well with the weather we planning on having a BBQ and refreshments while stacking it during the week anyone willing to get involved is more than welcome to come round and give a hand .

Let's keep the bonfire site clean and tidy 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

18/05/2026

The boys have been busy all weekend building the bonfire and getting the middle filled. We would like to thank everyone who has helped keep the site tidy by putting their stuff in the middle or as close to the bonfire as possible .It's been decided that once a week we will do collections around the estate for people struggling to bring stuff round .We won't be going up the town to collect anything.

Let's keep the site safe for everyone 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Well today finally seems like the bonfire has started but can we ask anyone who is bringing stuff round to try their best to put it in the middle of the bonfire to keep the area as tidy and safe as possible and DO NOT BRING ANY HOUSEHOLD WASTE OR METAL ROUND .Also can we ask parents to not let the kids climb the bonfire as it's not a climbing frame and is dangerous especially the higher the boys get it up .

Remember this is a community bonfire and if anyone wants to come round and help out there more than welcome to .🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

As we know bonfire season is upon us and council has put the base down so from next week the boys will start getting things put in place regarding the base etc .
There will be big signs going up for no dumping and we hope all the residents respect that and remember the residents round that part of the estate don't want to look at it as its not a dumping ground .Like last year we want to keep the site as tidy as possible .

If anything is brought round before everything is put in place it'll be brought round and set back in your garden .Let's make it safe for everyone 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Last night the Cultural society was out cutting the grass in the west winds to try get the estate in good order for the summer months .The society works closely with the WWDA ( Billy Sproule ) who supplied all the equipment and the work they do in the estate is 2nd to none Also Cllr Steven Irvine getting his hands dirty for once lol .Great to see the 2 Vickies and Ethel and other members of the community coming out and going in front of the boys litter picking just shows great community spirit and people having abit of pride in the estate . We will be hoping to go out regularly over the summer months so if anyone wants to come out and get involved their more than welcome to come along for abit the craic .It takes the stresses away for an hour or so and people there to have a chat to.🇬🇧🇬🇧
