September is Su***de Awareness Month and for ManHug, this is a time to raise awareness and talk openly, look out for each other, and say: you’re not alone.

In the UK, su***de remains a serious public health issue. In 2025, there were 5,728 deaths by su***de in England alone, and the rate is highest among men aged 40–49. These numbers represent real people, real families, and real pain, but they also underline why awareness, early support, and compassionate conversations matter.

By S*x: Males accounted for 1,123 registered deaths in Q4 alone (17.7 per 100,000), while females accounted for 370 (5.5 per 100,000). Across the broader real-time surveillance data, men consistently make up about 75% to 77% of suspected cases.

What this month is about ⬇️

Breaking the silence:
Encouraging honest conversations about mental health.

Supporting early:
Reaching out before someone feels they’re out of options.

Building connection:
Reminding people that help exists and support is available.

If you’re struggling, please don’t carry it alone.

If you feel in immediate danger or might act on thoughts of su***de, call 999. In the UK, you can also contact Samaritans (116 123), or Shout (text SHOUT to 85258).

This September, let’s choose care & one conversation at a time.

Key Statistics and DataRelative Risk:
Construction workers experience a su***de rate nearly four times higher than the general male population, making it one of the highest-risk occupational sectors.

Total Numbers:
Data compiled via the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and industry reports indicate hundreds of construction and skilled trade workers die by su***de annually (for instance, provisional figures recorded 355 deaths in skilled construction and building trades in England and Wales alone).

My attempt to put a voice and a face to ManHug!!!

I wasn't going share this after my third attempt of trying keeping it simple and straight to the point regarding Fridays game against I give up....

It's a personal and emotional project, with my own personal battles which as men we keep to ourselves because that's what we do....

🤍[manhug]🖤

Yesterday we held our very first ManHug 7v7 charity match ManHug FC against TS Domestics FC in support of ManHug Men’s Mental Health Charity.

The day almost didn’t happen. A closure on the M6 left so many of the lads stranded and making their way into the city however they could. Still they came, finding their way through to City of Stoke Football Club. When referee Mike Smith arrived, having kindly given his time for free we knew we were going ahead.

Then the heavens opened. Everyone took shelter as the storm rolled through… and then the sun came out. It felt strangely fitting. That’s mental health, isn’t it? Sometimes you can’t see the sunshine through the stormy days. But those days do pass.

We began with a minute’s silence for Kenny and Nathan, whose recent passing was felt by us all. From there, the game was played in a lovely spirit by both sides.

TS Domestics ran out 5–2 winners. Congratulations to them and thank you for everything you do for the city, and for helping us kick-start ManHug.

Through match subs and donations, we raised around £200 yesterday.

A massive thank you to everyone who came, and to everyone who has helped so far. There’s lots more to come from ManHug. 🖤🤍
