Anyone else feel something is “off” or is it just me?

So much noise… so much news 🙈 too many options. Too many tasks and too many tabs open in our minds. Somehow we are expected to carry it all, like it is normal 🤷‍♀️

We are not short of information.

We are short of clarity.

We are short of kindness and space where people can be people.

I don’t seem to be the only one….. It is feeling like the end of the world for the hundredth time and we still have to make small choices like “what’s for dinner tonight?” and it’s just ticking along isn’t it?

Small choices are becoming moral exams you don’t even know you are taking. No one trusts, everyone is guarded and most of us are currently on edge.

That is why Kontinuum exists.

Not a product, not a quick fix…
A real place, made on purpose to support our community have somewhere to speak to someone interesting, have space, a warm drink, materials to create with your hands or you may just want time somewhere that you don’t feel judged. Feel free to express yourself.

Real life can be the intervention, a real conversation. In a world that is now becoming completely dependent on digital screens and AI, entertainment and news…. step outside and talk to someone real.

If this post resonates with you and you wish to know more about what we do. Please DM, email or our contact form through our website.

Kind regards,
Kerry

If you started now… where could you be in 3 weeks time, 6 months or even a year?

Joining a class, learning a skill can open many doors. The first door is being around other people who enjoy what you enjoy. ☺️ Being in a positive environment, around good people. Learning traditional skills can change your mindset for the better 🙏

COMMUNITY UPDATE (from the heart): you lot are unreal!

If you’ve shared our fundraiser, donated, popped in for a coffee, bought a painting, booked a workshop, or even just stopped me to ask “how’s it going?”…

Thank you. It honestly means the world.

It means a lot that people are telling me they need a place like this while they’re waiting for support from the bigger organisations. That’s exactly why we built it.

This week has been a mix of gratitude, graft, and British weather doing what it does best (being dramatic). How are we getting every season in one day? …. I will never know 🤣

FUNDRAISER UPDATE (ONE WEEK) You’ve helped us raise:
£345 in one pot
£155 in another
That’s £500 already.
Our full target for the roof repair is £4,500.

And I need you to read this: £500 in a week is NOT small.

That’s momentum. That’s community. That’s purpose. That’s people choosing to back something good.

THE ROOF + THE STORMS
We’ve been working behind the scenes while we wait for the roof repair, and the storms have made it harder than it should be.
It’s one of those moments where you think “Right, we’ll sort it”…
and the weather goes...
“Absolutely not, babes.”
“Not today, me lover.”

Yeah… cheers, universe.

But we’re still here. Still moving. Still doing what we can, safely, day by day.

WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING INSIDE THE KONTINUUM?

Because of your support, we’ve had more people through the door this week and honestly, that’s the whole point.

We’ve:
Hosted our classes (yes, even with the weather trying to audition for a disaster film)
Moved the gallery around (it’s looking lush)
Kept showing up for the people who need a calm, inspiring place to land

WHY I PROTECT PEOPLE’S PRIVACY (AND WHY THAT MATTERS)
The Kontinuum was built for privacy and connection.
It’s incognito. You can come in as an art lover, a shopper, a musician… just wander, have a look, get a feel for the place. And if you need support — you can just ask.

It isn’t the doctor’s. You don’t have to explain yourself. You don’t have to give personal details.

Mental wellness comes from safety, humanity, and options.
So no... you won’t see me posting people’s names or personal stories for content. We don’t keep information like a system.

People can walk in, have a hot drink, sit in peace, and just be a human being. No judgement. No fear. No pressure.

And this is the magic bit: I’ve watched people walk in saying “I can’t”… and leave thinking “Actually… maybe I can.”

HOW TO HELP THIS WEEK (CHOOSE WHAT FITS)
If you’ve already donated — thank you. You’ve already helped.
If you can’t donate — please don’t feel bad. Sharing is massive.

And if you want to help in a way that also gives you something back, you can support the roof repair by supporting the space:

Buy a painting / art / a sculpture
Pop in for a coffee (even a small purchase helps)
Book a workshop (or gift one to someone)
Share the fundraiser link from Facebook or our website

Our website fundraiser has been the most successful so far — so if you’re choosing one link to share, share that one.

If you’ve been meaning to pop in… consider this your official nudge.

Come in. Bring a mate. Have a coffee. Have a look around.
With so much love and gratitude,

Kerry

Well…. I wasn’t expecting that today 🫶

Thank you 🙏

Ascension by Kerry Johnson SOLD🔴

This painting is about my battle with Faith…. The lady and the church. I went to St George in Dunster and used some basic references of the building as I’m “drawn” (pun intended) to a “Higher Power” I am interested in the unknown and I look for Faith. Faith in people, in myself and in the ludicrous world we live in.

Very proud 🥹 and very grateful 🙏 and today I needed Faith and I feel it is a synchronicity for this specific painting to sell at this time.

Sorry if I’m all abit mushy but I have shed a tear or 4 today…. 🥹

I’m posting this for transparency... because community spaces don’t survive on silence. They survive on truth, boundaries, and people showing up.

“Outraged.” Yes… I am.

There’s a painting in The Kontinuum right now by local artist Patricia. She’s known for work that doesn’t tiptoe around the truth.

This one is called Outraged.

And honestly… that’s exactly how I feel this week.

I’ve had messages and calls about the roof fundraiser. People saying, “Why isn’t the building owner paying for it?”

And I couldn’t agree more.

It’s a building issue that we can’t solve alone, and we’re doing what we can to keep the space safe and open. We are raising £4500 to help us with roof repairs.

I have to decide what kind of person I’m going to be about this.

I take responsibility seriously. I don’t believe in staying stuck. I don’t believe in letting something that matters collapse just because the situation isn’t being resolved quickly.

So yes… I’m frustrated. I’m angry. I’m outraged.

I’ve written letters. I’ve spoken to the right people. We have spent an absolute fortune building this place out of choice... and I know that part is on me... but I did it because I wanted to create something that supports mental health and purpose in our community in a new way.

I know first-hand what it feels like to lose someone. Someone you never thought wasn’t OK.

I know what it feels like to be in the dark myself. The deep times where you need someone, something, anything and you realise the world doesn’t always “fix it” when it should. Like potholes that never get repaired. Like systems that are supposed to help… and being left to just "deal with it."

And I’m reminded of something important.

Even when I’m outraged, I keep going.

I’ve put my life savings into this project. My blood (literally), my sweat, a broken shoulder. I’ve broken through concrete (physically). I’ve sat in rooms I never thought I’d belong in. I’ve made presentations with shaking hands. I’ve pushed and pushed and pushed.

And we’ve made it this far and we have so much further to go, we just need a little help.

We even won a global award for the concept and innovation and it’s maddening to think it could all come tumbling down because building issues aren’t being dealt with in the way they should be.

I didn’t want to post this. But I think it’s necessary.

Because when a community space is doing everything it can to stay open, it shouldn’t fall on a community space alone to carry building-level repairs.

I’m not going to stay silent about what it takes to keep a community space open... But I’m also not here to quit. I won’t quit on the people that need this.

So yes… I’m outraged.

And I’ll be damned if I don’t fight another day and fight another battle.

If Patricia’s painting speaks to you, it’s available in the gallery now.

And if you’re able to donate even £5–£10 towards the roof repairs, it genuinely helps. The link is in the comments.

If you’ve supported us already - donated, shared, popped in, or sent a message. Thank you.

You’ve reminded me that community is real. That humanity exists in the real people right here.

We keep the doorway open. We keep stomping forwards.

This is a public call-out for animals with attitude!

We’re running a Paint Your Own Pet Portrait competition to help raise money for the roof repairs at The Kontinuum and I want to create a fun comment section of our local pets!

Dogs, cats, horses, hamsters… snakes, stick insects… snails. If it’s got character, it’s welcome.

And yes.... people outside Minehead/West Somerset are welcome too. If you’ve got a pet with main-character energy, get involved.

HOW TO ENTER (make it good)

Comment with:
A photo of your pet
Their name
One short line that proves their personality (their “thing”)

Examples: “Steals socks.” “Hates men in hats.” “Thinks she’s the manager.” “Only cuddles for snacks.”

Post as many pet photos as you like. I’m not limiting the chaos.

PRIZE
Win 1 free seat on our Paint Your Own Pet Portrait Workshop (value £135)

It runs over 3 weeks / 3 sessions. (Dates will be released soon.)

HOW WE’RE PICKING THE WINNER

Not random.... we’re choosing the pet photo with the best character and expression.

Clear photo helps, but personality wins.

OPTIONAL (BUT A MASSIVE HELP)

If you can afford it, a £5 donation towards the roof repairs is a huge help.

If £5 isn’t affordable, no stress commenting and sharing still helps massively.

Tag one friend whose pet genuinely thinks it pays rent.

Example (so you know what I mean): in the comments!

Pet portraits and classes are hosted by the amazing local wildlife artist Donna Terry Art 🖼️ follow her art page for incredible realism portraits and local exhibitions 🫶
