Earlier this week we had our first autumn wellbeing walk which was a big success! With 5 walkers joining us including new friends from the Orchard we had a loop round the park, enjoying the autumn sunshine, and thankfully no rain. We learnt a bit about Brian Clough from one of our participants, and finished with blood pressure monitoring at the fountains! Many thanks to all who joined and we hope to see you again at Stewart Park in a few weeks.

Know Your Numbers! Week reaches out to those who have high blood pressure and don’t know it, so they can get the treatment and support they need to bring it under control. As our contribution to this important week, we invite you to join our wellbeing walk, and stop for a cuppa and blood pressure check in the Albert Park cafe afterwards. All are welcome but spaces on the walk are limited, so please use the link in the poster to book!

Last week our friends from TASC joined us for our monthly Brothers and Sisters day at Larchfield! We held our second book making workshop, this time welcoming illustrators Nic and Sox, along with workshop host Gillie. Gillie had drafted a story based on the group's ideas in workshop 1, and Sox and Nic had started to bring the story to life in pictures. After some fabulous acting and dressing up from the group, we had time to gather feedback on what everybody liked or felt could be improved. We're so looking forward to our final workshop when we'll get to read a full draft of the two books with completed illustrations!

After lunch Steve joined us to tell us all about 'Second Life' a virtual world which he has used to make short films. We heard about Skinningrove pier and the Zeppelin fly over, and even saw a flying mayor! Group members enjoyed having a go themselves and exploring. Finally we rounded off the afternoon with a fun reminder from Sophie and Mahek about healthy eating.

A huge thanks to all our wonderful workshop leaders, and we look forward to seeing you all again on September 17th!

We had a wonderfully colourful party day at our Brothers and Sisters meeting for July! We started the morning making rainbow wraps, fruit kebabs and delicious mocktails, with Samia from Middlesbrough Environment City. Another fantastic opportunity to learn about how important vitamins and fresh fruit and veg are for a healthy diet.

After lunch we were joined by DJ Matty for a classic summer disco, with Hawaiian themed decor and plenty of tasty snacks and drinks! Everyone enjoyed the dancing and karaoke and thankfully the weather was pleasantly cooler than our June session!

Big thanks to Ruth for organising, and to Matt and Samia for helping us kick off the summer! We look forward to seeing everyone again on 20th August when we will be meeting the illustrators for our book writing project!

We're back! With another Brothers and Sisters update!

For our June session we had a fabulous book - writing workshop at our Brothers and Sisters event. Local author and publisher Gillie Hatton facilitated the session, and we were joined by our friends from TASC who have their own Beyond Words book club.

Through interactive stations we started to think about characters, setting and a plot for our story. There was dressing up and mystery objects to help us make a plan! We also looked through pictures prepared for us by students from the Northern School of Art who are hoping to be selected to illustrate the final book. All very exciting!

In the afternoon the Elderly Brothers joined us for an excellent singing session, the perfect wind down after all our hard work!

Huge thanks to Mel, John and Gillie for delivering such a fun day despite the crippling heat! We look forward to seeing everyone again on July 16th when it will be party time!
