We had a great Friday Wind Down Walk last night, following our Piper Holes route.
A great walk with friends old and new.
And rounded off nicely with post walk pub refreshments 🙂

We were out this morning leading two walks for . It was great that both groups saw and heard Curlews.
And great to meet lots of lovely folks , some visiting this part of the world for the first time.

Our Swellands Walk was the basis for today's route, but as Swellands reservoir is being abandoned / returned to moorland by Yorkshire Water we're going to rename the walk the Curlew Walk.. as suggested by , founder of Curlew Action who organised today as well as the fundraiser gig tonight with 😊

Our ward councillors are trying to find a solution to the footbridge across Cellars Clough, Marsden. Fisher’s Footbridge near the old Cellars Clough Mill was left in a state of disrepair by the previous developer.

Whilst it is not the responsibility of the council to repair it, they are engaging with the new developer’s planning application to ensure that the plans include a suitable restoration/replacement/alternative for the footbridge.

Note that the full application covers more than the footbridge, but it is that aspect we are focusing on here as Marsden Walkers are Welcome.

Please help to ensure that access to the bridge is fully considered at the planning stage by commenting on that aspect of the application with a ‘general comment’ in favour of the repair of the footbridge and walls:

Notice of Annual General Meeting 2025 for Marsden Walkers Are Welcome: 8th December 7.30pm

Marsden Walkers are Welcome Annual General Meeting will take place on the 8th Dec 7.30pm at Marsden Liberal Club.

Constitutional Amendment -
Proposed: To amend paragraph 7.3 to increase the size of the Steering Committee from six to nine.

Proposed: The Steering Committee to undertake a review of the constitution overall to ensure it is relevant and fit-for-purpose. The Steering Committee may adopt recommendations for change, any such amendments to be confirmed at the next AGM.

Update: Sorry everyone, Amy is being very stormy - so we've had to cancel :-( We'll be back in the Spring with more lovely Wind Down Walks. In the meantime, enjoy exploring Marsden Moor with our self-guided leaflets - and maybe we'll lead something over the winter, sometime. Keep an eye out.

The duck race was done as a draw because it was so rainy and the river was too high on Saturday.
Yes, it was too wet for (plastic) ducks.

The draw took place in front of the audience at the evening gig and all the winners have been contacted.
