Weโ€™re stepping into something new.

Tonight is our first music-curated event as part of an ongoing seriesโ€ฆ

We really couldnโ€™t have chosen a more beautiful artist and human to begin this with โœจ Someone who embodies so much of what this series is about.

A practice in what it means to invite artists into Margate with care, intention, and relationship at the centre.

Not just performance.
But connection.
Culture.
Healing.
Joy.

Last week, Ni Maxine also joined on , and now sheโ€™s in conversation with People Dem Collectives at HQ reflecting on what it means to hold space, to gather, and to build something rooted in community.

This work sits within a wider commitment to care, culture, and community in practiceโ€ฆ

Thinking about how culture is held, not extracted.

How space is created with, not just for.

How artists and communities can meet in ways that feel reciprocal, grounded, and alive.

This is just the beginning of us testing, learning, and shaping what this can become.

Still some tickets available - link in bio.

A new chapter for People Dem Collective.

This time last year we were in a very different position.

Having taken part in the Margate Town Deal process and believing in the possibility of community-led regeneration, we suddenly found ourselves outside of that process and without the temporary home that had been holding much of our work.

Moments like that are part of the reality of building community infrastructure. Theyโ€™re messy, disorientating, and often unseen.

But they matter. And they need to be documented.

As we begin growing our team and imagining what a long-term home for the People Dem could hold, we believe itโ€™s important to capture this journey, what it reveals about regeneration, participation, and the realities of access to community assets.

So in collaboration with , weโ€™re commissioning a researcher or writer to develop a case study exploring People Dem Collectiveโ€™s experience participating in the Margate Town Deal.

This work will help inform future advocacy, funding conversations, and collective learning about what it really takes for communities to build and hold cultural infrastructure.

Last week was such a beautiful way to begin the year โœจ

A week of intimate gatherings, rituals, sound, movement and shared intention, invitations gently offered across the week and held with so much care.

Thank you to for holding space for many different kinds of gatherings, to for supporting our technical needs throughout, and to all the artists, healers and creatives who brought Movement From the Margins - Collective Altar to life.

Deep gratitude to everyone who attended, who offered objects to the altar, left chalk messages, and shaped the work through presence and participation.

Grateful to for another meaningful collaboration. It feels good to start the year this way and to move forward together.

Tonight is the closing event for Collective Altar with CODA.

Over the past week, Collective Altar has unfolded as a residency of gatherings, performances, and collective rituals, some now passed, some held in memory, and one final moment to come together tonight.

We begin with an offering.๐Ÿ•ฏ๏ธ

This Saturday marks the opening of our week-long programme of activations, beginning with CEREMONY an intimate gathering where weโ€™ve invited a small group of local healers and creatives, held as an offering to them.

Saturday 3 January

An opening for Collective Altar shared through ritual, nourishment, and presence.
Hosted by Eat Ethio.

For us, this moment marks a shift into the new year:
moving with intention,
creating spaces with care,
and opening slowly, together.

A grounding before the wider unfolding.

Part of Movements from the Margins: Collective Altar
People Dem Collective x Diasporas Now

In SUBTEXT, Paul Camo and James Jordan Johnson collaborate through live sound performance, using sampling, live instrumentation and found text to form new, sometimes legible and sometimes illegible, relationships between genres and themes. The session unfolds across four CDJs, moving between structure, disruption and shared listening.

This activation sits within Movements from the Margins: Collective Altar, a week-long residency exploring ritual, sound, diasporic lineage and transformative shared experience. Drawing on Margateโ€™s coastline, chalk, salt, water and fire, the programme gathers Global Majority artists and practitioners working through listening, story and sonic transmission.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Free event - places are limited. Book via link in bio.

This event is open to all. While the residency is rooted in Global Majority experiences and practices, all are welcome. No prior experience required.

RESONANCE with Ruby Savage
๐Ÿ“ Quench Gallery
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ 8 January | 7โ€“9pm

An embodied listening experience within the Collective Altar residency, exploring vibration, attunement and deep-time connection.

Part of Movements from the Margins: Collective Altar
People Dem Collective x Diasporas Now

In RESONANCE, leads a deep listening journey exploring how vibration moves through the body, how sound recalibrates the nervous system, and how collective attunement roots us in presence.

Part sound ritual, part meditative grounding, part communal recalibration, this session invites participants to arrive softly, tune inward, and open themselves to subtle frequencies that guide transformation.

This activation sits at the heart of the residencyโ€™s sonic thread, preparing the ground for the closing performances later in the week.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Free event - places are limited. Book via link in bio.

This event is open to all. While the residency is rooted in Global Majority experiences, all are welcome. No prior experience required.
