On this day in 2001, Whatman Park – the centrepiece of Maidstone Millennium River Park – was officially opened!

The countdown now begins to next year’s 25th anniversary.

The River Park was part of a lasting legacy of Millennium projects, funded in part by the National Lottery to mark the turn of the century.

As well as Whatman Park, the project introduced:
🔹 Three nationally acclaimed pedestrian bridges
🔹 More than 1,500 newly planted trees
🔹 A rose trail and an amphitheatre in the town centre
