This is an important campaign Helen is running to highlight the huge amount of development coming to this small part of Kent.

Infrastructure cannot cope. Promised infrastructure will not materialise.

Enough is enough.

The formal letter from Kent County Council to Maidstone Borough Council sent today raises the further issues with Heathlands:

πŸ”΄ The new railway station hasn’t been secured
πŸ”΄ Lack of control in the SPD to limit development until rail station is delivered
πŸ”΄ Potentially significant archeology located on Chapel Hill has been identified and a safe-guarded zone should be included to protect it
πŸ”΄ the Minerals site/quarry has not been properly safeguarded beyond the active site
πŸ”΄ They still want a developer contribution to Household Waste Recycling Sites

πŸ’₯ THIS IS EXPLOSIVE πŸ’₯
Kent County Council opposes Heathlands and has pointed out the severe deficiencies in the Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) that Maidstone Borough Council are trying to force through at committee tonight.

It’s high time that MBC listens to local residents and statutory consultees like KCC and pauses this SPD until proper work has been done.

πŸ“Ί ITV MERIDIAN NEWS πŸ“Ί

It is deeply concerning that the Leader of Maidstone Borough Council and Maidstone Green Party is so dismissive about plans to concrete over 900 acres of countryside to make way for a massive new town.

What’s more, Secretary of State Steve Reed MP should visit the site and see firsthand what his Department is preparing to support: the likely closure of an existing community railway station so it can be rebuilt 2km down the road at the heart of this new development. That isn’t good planning β€” it’s madness.
