Taking a week to relax, reset, and recharge.

And what better way to spend it than by the water, rods out, doing what we love most. This week we’re heading to for a 3-day festival with great friends, a bit of friendly competition, and plenty of good food and good company.

Sometimes the best way to reset is to slow down, get outdoors, and reconnect with the simple things.

We’ll still be checking emails while we’re away, but responses may be a little slower than usual, so we appreciate your patience.

We will be back at work Saturday 13th at for Catch and Connect.

Donating to and fundraising for Cast A Thought has just become even easier.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve joined GoodHub, making it simpler than ever for our amazing supporters to help us continue changing lives through our fishing, wellbeing, and community programmes.

Visit our dedicated page: http://www.goodhub.com/go/castathought

Simply click the QR code or use the profile page buttons to make a donation, start a fundraiser, or support our work in just a few clicks.

Even better, donations made through GoodHub can be Gift Aided, meaning eligible donations are worth an extra 25% to us at no additional cost to you.

🎣Shortly we will also be introducing something new for our angling community. One of the questions we’re hear most often is, “What equipment should I buy to get started?” To help answer that, we'll soon be adding a range of starter kits to our GoodHub page, including Whip/Pole Fishing, Feeder Fishing, and Carp Fishing setups.

Simply make the recommended donation and the kit will be yours, helping you start your angling journey while supporting Cast A Thought's work at the same time.

Every pound raised helps us provide opportunities for young people and adults to improve their wellbeing, build confidence, develop new skills, and connect with others through our programmes.

Thank you for being part of our journey and helping us reach even more people through the power of fishing, conversation, and community.

It's great to see two of our volunteers being recognised by Active Kent & Medway in their volunteering week posts 😀

This week, we’re celebrating the incredible people who make Cast A Thought what it is — our volunteers.

Every hour they give helps someone reflect, connect, and grow. To recognise their dedication, we’ve introduced new milestone certificates for 50 hours and 100 hours of volunteering.

Each certificate represents more than time — it’s a symbol of compassion, community, and commitment.

Today we have sent 6 - 50 hour certificates and look forward to sending some 100 hours over the coming weeks.

Thank you to all our volunteers for being part of our journey and for helping others find hope and belonging through angling and connection.

Innovation and collaboration

Last night I had the privilege of attending a Hackathon organised by an organisation doing fantastic work helping young people develop coding, digital and problem-solving skills.

The challenge for the evening was simple: charities and community organisations pitched real-world problems, and teams of young developers worked together to design digital solutions.

We pitched an idea close to our hearts – a Monitoring & Evaluation App that would help us capture meaningful data from our programmes, measure outcomes more effectively and demonstrate the impact our work has on young people, families and communities.

For organisations like ours, good data is essential. It helps us understand what is working, improve our services and provide the evidence funders need when making decisions about future investment. An app designed specifically around our programmes could make collecting and analysing that information far easier and more engaging for participants.

It was inspiring to see the creativity, enthusiasm and technical skills of the young people involved. Their ability to listen, ask insightful questions and quickly turn ideas into potential solutions was genuinely impressive.

A huge thank you to everyone at Future Coders South East for organising such a brilliant event. We can’t wait to see how the young developers bring these ideas to life and explore how technology can help us increase our impact even further.

Celebrating Our Young Leaders

As part of Volunteers’ Week, we want to recognise the amazing young people who have progressed from participants on our Fish Fest and Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programmes to becoming Young Leaders.

Many of these young people first joined our sessions to learn new skills, make friends, build confidence, and enjoy time outdoors. Today, they are helping to support the next generation of participants, assisting with activities, encouraging others, and acting as positive role models.

What makes our Young Leaders so special is their lived experience. They remember what it was like to attend their first session, to feel nervous about meeting new people, or to lack confidence in trying something new. Because they have been on that journey themselves, they can connect with participants in a way that is genuine, relatable, and inspiring.

Their experiences help create an environment where young people feel understood, welcomed, and supported. They show participants that with encouragement, perseverance, and the right opportunities, they too can develop new skills, grow in confidence, and achieve things they never thought possible.

Watching our Young Leaders grow from participants into confident young role models is one of the most rewarding parts of our work. They are proof that investing in young people creates lasting change—not only for the individual, but for the wider community.

Thank you to all of our Young Leaders for the enthusiasm, commitment, and positivity you bring to every session. You are making a difference and inspiring others every day. 🎣

Happy Volunteers’ Week!

This week, we celebrate the incredible people who give their time, energy, and passion to support our work and make a real difference in the lives of young people and adults.

From helping catch their very first fish, to providing encouragement, guidance, and a listening ear, our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Their dedication helps create safe, welcoming spaces where confidence grows, friendships are built, and wellbeing improves.

Whether they’re supporting our Fish and Chat, Get Fishing sessions, HAF sessions, Fish Fest events, Catch and Connect programmes, or helping behind the scenes, every volunteer plays a vital role in making our activities possible.

To all our volunteers – thank you for your commitment, kindness, and enthusiasm. Your impact reaches far beyond the waterside, helping young people and adults develop resilience, self-belief, and positive memories that last a lifetime.

Please join us in celebrating our amazing volunteers this week and let them know how much they are appreciated. 🎣
