So far were have collected 42 sacks of coats to help those facing difficult circumstances.

We have not stopped though, we have until the 10th November.

Tomorrow - 21st October 2026 - Louth Rotary have a stall at the market in Louth.

We are selling beautiful purple crocus bulbs, crocus in pots and more. This is in aid of one of our core Rotary International projects which is working hard to eradicate polio worldwide.

We collect for money to buy the oral vaccines, etc. to ensure that all children worldwide are vaccinated against this awful disease.

We hope to see you there, despite the weather forecast, and look forward to chatting to you and raising much needed funds for such an important cause.

The 15th October 2026 saw the very first North Thoresby Youth Club evening. Our District Governor David Hartley along with his wife Yvonne and fellow Rotarian Trevor Milburn presented a cheque for £1327.44 to help with the running of the club for the following weeks / months.

It is an absolute joy for us to support these local causes.

Saturday we supported our charity of the year Lincolnshire Rural Support Network at the Lincoln Sausage Festival.

We would like to a say a huge thank you to all those who played the game and all that rolled their arms.... All in the aid of charity.

Do you know why St James' church is lit in purple? Yes or No, please read on.....

Every October, St James’s church in Louth turns purple. This is to highlight the programme for the global eradication of Polio. It is organised by the Rotary Foundation, the charity arm of Rotary International of which Louth Rotary is one of over eighteen hundred member clubs.

Louth Rotarians will be out in the coming weeks planting purple crocuses around the town. On Saturday 17th and Wednesday 21st of October they are selling purple crocuses and other themed merchandise in the Louth market.

Why purple crocuses? Purple has always been the colour of the End Polio Now programme. In the past when the Rotary teams visited villages, they promised all children a sweet if they came for their vaccination. Some crafty children thought they would get more sweets if they kept going to the back of queue. So all children had their little finger stained with a purple dye to show they had received the medication. And purple became the theme colour of the programme.

Is polio still around? There are very few cases in the world now thanks to 50 years of Rotary endeavour. But children under the age of 5 everywhere still need to be vaccinated. If we let our guard down now, polio could soon become the next global epidemic, with catastrophic results, and many child deaths and disability from becoming infected by the virus.

Of course, this requires large sums of money to keep going, and Rotary Clubs everywhere will be asking for your help to carry on the fight against this deadly disease. Come and visit us on the market stalls in Louth and help End Polio Now.
