Time to Move forward
After showing our strength and unity against racial insult and blatant trampling of the credibility of Filipino Nurses by a xenophobic paper, the daily Mail, I would like to invite you all again to participate in variety of actions necessary to progress our demand for Public Apology. The organisers of the solidarity Rally decided to take the protest off the street and will fi
le a formal complaint against the Daily Mail to The Independent Press Standard Organization (IPSO). On the basis that the paper maligned the integrity of the whole Filipino Community in the UK, especially to the Nurses, by publishing malicious headlines like “How did Filipino serial killer get a job in the NHS? Fears 'devil' nurse who murdered two patients and poisoned 20 more faked his qualifications to work in a UK hospital and NHS STILL hiring Filipino nurses despite Victorino Chua scandal: Recruiters fly out in desperate bid to fill hospital vacancies”. We believe that these articles have racial undertones and stereotype all Filipinos’ as killers and fraudsters. We are hopeful that all leaders of Filipino communities in the UK will join us and collectively pursue a case against Daily Mail. The greater our number, the louder is our message. As individuals, please use the power of the social media to stir public attention and engagement by continuously posting, tweeting and blogging about this issue of racism against Filipinos in the UK. Use . Lastly we would like to seek support from progressive thinking MPs and Politicians to escalate the issue in a wider political realms. If you know your MP please contact them. What we have achieved last Saturday in the street of London is just the beginning of a bigger battle ahead. We should keep the fire alive for our Filipino health workers and until we restore respect for the whole Filipino community. Thank you
