This week, SWIM celebrated the graduation of our PACT groups from Camden, Islington and Hackney with a special visit to Tate Modern to experience the powerful Nigerian Modernism exhibition.

The group explored the rich history of Nigerian artists who challenged boundaries and redefined creativity before and after Nigeria’s independence in 1960.

Through painting, sculpture, textiles and poetry, participants engaged with inspiring works from artists including Ben Enwonwu, El Anatsui and Ladi Kwali.
The visit was a chance to celebrate growth, connection, creativity and the achievements of everyone who completed the programme.

A huge well done to all participants across the Camden, Islington and Hackney cohorts, your commitment, engagement and hard work throughout the programme has been incredible to see. 👏

As we close the year, we’re reflecting on what SWIM truly stands for: Support When It Matters.

This year, SWIM has continued to show up for our communities delivering workshops, programmes, outreach and support across education, training and homelessness. We exist to disrupt the norm, challenge systems that don’t serve everyone and create spaces where global majority communities are heard, supported and empowered.

Our work is community-led, grounded in lived experience and driven by the belief that the right support at the right time can change lives.

To everyone who has walked alongside us this year — community members, partners, facilitators and supporters — thank you from us all for trusting the vision and being part of the movement.

We’re stepping into the new year focused, accountable and committed to impact.

Support when it matters. Always.

Every Tuesday at HMP Brixton, our Senior Practitioner Elisha leads SWIM’s PACT programme, creating a safe, free-flow space for men 3–6 months from release to reflect, grow, and prepare for life back in the community.

For the past 3 of our 5 months running this programme, Elisha has been recognised for his consistent leadership, offering support without judgement and championing the needs of Afro-Caribbean and dual-heritage individuals facing barriers.

Each week explores topics such as mental health, communication, the emotional realities of imprisonment, the highs and lows of release and how to navigate life back in society. Although the programme follows a 5-week model, it runs on a rolling basis, allowing individuals to attend as often as they need.

What we’ve seen is powerful:
Every attendee has reached out to SWIM for additional support, including housing, employment, training, and drug & alcohol services. This reinforces just how vital the programme is.

A highlight from this week:
Elisha supported a participant who was focused on finding employment upon release. He connected him with who helped him secure his Green CSCS card and provided an opportunity in painting & decorating. His long-term goal is to run his own business and now he’s one step closer.

At SWIM, we remain committed to empowering individuals, breaking barriers and building real pathways to change.

Word from Peter: This recognition means a lot to me as it reflects not just my journey, but the passion, resilience and hard work of the incredible team at SWIM. Every challenge we’ve faced has shaped us and every success reminds me why we do what we do.

Here’s to continuing to lead with purpose, break barriers and create lasting impact.

Congratulations Peter and thank you for leading & paving the way for others.

Here’s Elisha reminding us how powerful it can be to share our stories and look out for one another 💚

Elisha is a true force within our organisation, confident, expressive and unapologetically himself, from the way he speaks to the clothes that represent who he is.

Let’s keep the conversation going around mental health and continue building a community where everyone feels seen and supported.

On 4th September, our Recovery & Support Practitioners Lisa and Elisha attended the Streetfest Event 🎉

They connected with some incredible organisations making a real difference, including:
✨ WOW (Women at the Well) – women’s support service
✨ Woosh – women-only one-stop shop in N15
✨ BUBIC – community-based support across multiple areas
✨ Dope – giving homeless individuals the chance to sell newspapers & magazines for income

The day was full of networking, reconnecting with familiar faces and building new relationships 🤝

An inspiring reminder of how much can be achieved when communities and services come together. 💜
