Youth work plays such an important role in strengthening our communities. It helps young people build confidence, resilience and opportunity — yet it doesn’t always get the recognition it deserves.

Our recent event shone a spotlight on the dedication, innovation and impact of youth workers across our county, while celebrating the incredible young people whose achievements inspire us every day. 💛

We were honoured to welcome so many inspiring voices to the Celebration of Youth Work.

Thank you to Victoria Boorman and Cole Broadbent for sharing their honest journeys into youth work, and to Helen Embleton from the The National Youth Agency for her insight, leadership and support of youth voice.

We were also proud to be joined by the HM's Lord Lieutenant of Somerset and the High Sheriff of Somerset, who helped make the evening truly special by presenting certificates and celebrating learner achievement.

It was an evening filled with reflection, recognition and hope for the future of youth work in Somerset.

💙 Student Volunteer Week 💙

This is Liam — A brilliant youth volunteer at The Space Youth Club.

A year ago, Liam joined the youth club to build his confidence and meet new people. He describes himself then as mostly keeping to himself and not feeling very confident.

Today, he’s volunteering — supporting activities, helping younger members feel welcome, and growing in confidence every week.

Recently, through his involvement with The Space, Liam had the opportunity to take part in the Somerset Youth Alliance Celebration of Youth Work, joining the Youth Panel and speaking in front of a live audience.

From staying in his room…
to sharing his voice on a panel.

That’s the power of youth volunteering.

Liam believes Student Volunteer Week is important because:

“It is a great way to celebrate young people who already volunteer and give them a sense of value in what they are doing.”

Youth clubs give young people the chance to try something different, attend events they might not normally go to, and build friendships they may never otherwise have made. For Liam, it has also opened the door to opportunities he might never have imagined.

We are so proud of him — and of every young person who steps forward, gives back and grows in the process 💙

What an evening 💚

The Celebration of Youth Work brought together youth workers, learners, young people, partners and supporters from across Somerset — all united by a shared belief in young people and their potential.

From inspiring speakers and powerful youth voice to certificate presentations and incredible food, the atmosphere was full of pride, warmth and connection.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, spoke, listened, supported and celebrated. Youth work matters — and this evening showed just how strong our community really is.
