The Knaresborough Town Criers, Mark Hunter and Andrew Richards (deputy), are appointed on a voluntary basis by The Knaresborough & District Chamber of Trade to promote the wealth of independent businesses and community events in the town. The weekly cry to open the Wednesday Market is shared between the criers who also appear at numerous other scheduled and ad hoc events in the town, throughout th

e year, notably The Bed Race, FEVA, Bright Friday and The Christmas Market. The Town Criers are always pleased to receive information regarding local events to include in the weekly cry and invitations to appear personally, and do their best to accommodate these requests whenever possible.

It is rumoured that the sun always shines on the Deputy Town Crier, but today Andrew was wishing it would do so with somewhat less gusto! There were plenty of Knaresborians and visitors braving the heat at Knaresborough Markets and Knaresborough Castle however. Congratulations to the wonderful Town Guides of The Mayor of Knaresborough's Town Walking Tours who celebrate their first anniversary tomorrow.

Mark and Andrea often get asked if they wear their town crier regalia all the time. It certainly sometimes feels like that during busy times of the year and they couldn't resist taking it on holiday with them when they took a short break in Northumberland at the beautiful Budle Hall, Bamburgh . A big thank you to our hosts for their wonderful hospitality and for allowing us to use their stunning home as a back drop for these fabulous photos. A special thanks to our hostess, Celia, for acting as photographer with such great enthusiasm and to excellent effect. We look forward to visiting again soon.

Knaresborough is full of talent, musical, artistic and literary and tonight we were delighted to attend the launch of the much anticipated sequel to "Over the Fence". Local authors Karen Haase and Julie Martin-Jones introduced and signed copies of "Breaking the Fence" and we were treated to readings by Jane and Meg who provide the voices for the audio books. The sun brought out a lot of visitors to Knaresborough today, including our friends from Knaresborough Twin Town, Volodymyr in Ukraine, and visitors from Papua New Guinea, Brazil and Hull, not to mention the black headed gull who also took a keen interest in the cry and had a grandstand view!

One of the iconic TV themes of the 1960s was Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds so it was great to hear this performed by 1953 Knaresborough Squadron Air Training Corps to accompany their Thunderbirds themed bed.
