Sunday 21st June saw Meigle visit The Larder for the first time in over 14 years. The sun was high in the sky and the match got under way with KCC battings first. Saly, Rob Cooper, who was taking up his first captaincy role was clean bowled with the very first ball of the game. Alex Tweedy and Ant Drew put on a 39 partnership before Alex was bowled in the 13th over on 22. Fraser Laing came into bat with his now legendary big hitting power and hit the first out of the ground for six. Only six overs later the team score was 105 when Fraser fell on 47 after he hit seven 6’s. Ant was next to fall having scored a well-structured 31. Louis McGough batted through for an unbeaten 11 with Rahul Khanduja, Derek Cooper, Marco Rattezo and Nathan Ferguson all adding to the team total. Nathan was run out of the very last ball with the team on 138 for 8.

In reply, Meigle lost their first wicket in the second over with an excellent catch for Rahul off Nathan’s bowling. Louis’s bowling is worthy of mention with 3 overs, 2 maidens and only 2 runs. This level of accuracy form Louis, Rob, Nathan and Rahul kept Meigle from scoring as the first ten overs yielded only 25 runs. Rahul was exceptional as he bowled 6 overs for 4 wickets and only 7 runs, his best KCC performance to date. John Ross added a further 2 wickets off his 3 overs and Marco picked up 2 in his 2 overs. When the final Meigle wicket fell after a great run out from Fraser, they were all out for 69.
Batting honours went to Fraser but man of the match for his 4 wickets and 2 great catches went to Rahul.

Doune & Dunblane CC v KCC
14th June 2026

As the sun shone Doune went out to bat with father and son pairing of Ben and Daniel Hart opening proceedings. The KCC bowlers were highly accurate, the fielders were on top form and the Doune batters found runs difficult to come by. At the halfway mark, on 15 overs, Doune had reach 48 without loss. Louis McGough made the breakthrough getting Ben LBW. This brought the teenage firebrand, Salman to the crease. The bowlers suddenly found the ball flying to all areas so the ground as he quickly raced to 21 in only 4 overs. KCC skipper, David Campbell handed the ball to still injured, but playing against doctor’s orders, John Ross. The first ball was duly dispatched to the boundary for six. Ross then changed to round the wicket bowling, and his next delivery had Salman clean bowled round his legs as the leg stump was removed. The next ball had the batsman returning to the pavilion and Ross was two for two. The hat-trick ball hit the batsman cleanly on the pads but was not likely to go on to hit the stumps and no appeal with given.

David Campbell and Rahul Khanduja took a wicket each as KCC continued to field and bowl with great flair and accuracy. Nathen Ferguson effected the best run out of the season so far with a fantastic long throw direct hit to dismiss Bottomly without scoring. Withteh last ball of the game Rahul ran out the final batsman as Doune ended their innings on 118 for seven wickets. Eleven-year-old Daniel Hart was pick of the batters scoring 24 and batting for 27 overs. This is a player to watch in the future.

After tea, David and Louis opened for Kinross-shire and steadily brought up the 50 partnership in the eighth over. David was finally bowled on 30 two overs later. Mark Buchan-Steele suffered his first duck for the team having been bowled by Daniel Hart with his second ball faced. Rob Cooper came into bat on the ground he scored his maiden senior fifty on the previous season. Louis and Rob took the score to 109 before Rob was caught off the bowling of Daniel Hart again. With ten needed form the remaining ten overs Kinross-shire looked set for the win. Fraser Laing decided that the game needed to be finished as quickly as possible and dispatched the ball into the woods with successive deliveries hitting two massive sixes to win the game.

A very solid performance by all the KCC players and the team now stand two wins from three matches. Given that the 2025 season didn’t have a win this is a much-welcomed turnaround.
