Aragorn has been doing his best to keep cool during the warmer weather this week.

His foster family continue to have wonderful things to say about him. They describe him as a very calm and relaxed character who is great with people and really enjoys a fuss and a stroke.

He also has a playful side! Aragorn gets excited when it's time to play, so his foster family have been saving playtime for the cooler evenings when the temperature is more comfortable.

This lovely boy is settling into home life beautifully and looking for his forever home.

Gnawer Pawrice has been taking it nice and easy during the heat this week. 🫠

This photo captures a very important milestone — his first time on the sofa! Safe to say he was a fan.

His foster family say he is also getting used to being left for short periods. They’ve been gradually building up his confidence and each time they return they are greeted by a very waggy tail.

It’s been a week full of firsts for this lovely boy:

✨ Toys (including, of course, a fluffy rabbit)
✨ Seeing the sea
✨ Visiting a pub
✨ A little taste of ice cream

Watching rescue dogs experience all these simple joys for the first time never gets old.

Gnawer Pawrice is looking for his forever home where he can enjoy many more firsts with a family of his own.

How have you been keeping your hounds cool this week? ☀️

Bay appears to have become a paddling pool dog… although we suspect that may only be because there were sausages involved 😂

This lovely boy is still looking for his forever home, so if you happen to have a paddling pool — or even just the sausages — Bay may be the dog for you!

Here is Princess Rosalina out on a little adventure with her foster family! 🐾

You may have seen us mention that she is a little more active than some of our other greyhounds — but all we really mean by that is that she enjoys slightly longer walks and a bit more exploring.

Some of our hounds are perfectly happy with two 20-minute walks a day, whereas Princess Rosalina enjoys getting out and about a little more.

For some adopters, this could simply mean enjoying longer walks at the weekend and shorter strolls during the week — every home and lifestyle is different.
Like all dogs, every greyhound is different, which is why foster homes are so important in helping us understand what suits each dog best.

If you are looking to adopt, please apply — we’ll always do our best to help match you with a dog that suits your lifestyle and needs.

These are just some of the dogs currently in our care.

They are part of the seemingly never-ending stream of ex-racing greyhounds and abandoned lurchers who find themselves needing rescue.

Behind every one of these faces is a story. A dog who needs a second chance. A dog who deserves a sofa, a family and someone to love them.

Greyhounds and lurchers make incredible companions. They are affectionate, loyal, gentle souls who ask for so little and give so much in return.

Yet while these dogs wait for their forever homes, there are hundreds more greyhounds and lurchers across the country also waiting to be chosen. Behind them are countless others who will need rescue places in the days, weeks, months and years ahead.

The reality is that rescues like ours are struggling to keep up with demand. Every week there are more dogs needing help than there are foster homes, adopters and spaces available.

But every adoption changes a life.

When one dog leaves for a forever home, it creates space for another dog to be given a chance. One adoption doesn't just save one dog — it helps many more.

So if you are looking for your next dog, please consider adopting a greyhound or lurcher from Kent Greyhound Rescue. All of our dogs live in foster homes, allowing us to understand their personalities and match them with the right home.

These dogs are waiting ❤

🐾

We love hearing updates from our forever families — and today’s is all about Betty!

Three months on, Betty — now 7 going on 8 — has settled in so beautifully. After five years racing and two years breeding, this sweet girl is finally enjoying the relaxed life she deserves. She’s become an expert squirrel and bird watcher, takes her neighbourhood watch duties very seriously, and has even revealed herself to be quite the yoga master! 🧘‍♀️ Betty has formed a lovely relationship with the older gentleman of the house, enjoys beach adventures, and keeps everyone entertained with her tangled travel antics. Most importantly, she is clearly very loved and thriving in her forever home.

Her family also wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone at KGR.
