Friend to Friend

Friend to Friend Friend to Friend is a local charity offering a wide range of activities for older people in south Ki Everyone is treated as an individual.

Friend to Friend is a registered charity in rural South Kirklees, West Yorkshire. Our aim is to work with older people to enable them to improve their quality of life, combat loneliness and reduce isolation. We do this by providing a range of stimulating activities in accessible local venues. These include Armchair Exercise, lunches, a Men’s Group, activity groups, local history and interest group

s, day trips and monthly get-togethers. All our members receive a regular newsletter and events, photos etc are posted regularly on our website, Twitter feed and page. Many older people can feel isolated for a variety of reasons; their families have moved away, they may have suffered bereavement, or they are new to the area (moving to be nearer family but leaving behind old friends). For whatever reason Friend to Friend exists to provide much needed companionship, activities to stimulate the mind and exercise groups to stay active. The majority of our members are over 70 years of age, with a range of needs.

Look what our Holmfirthers made this morning. We don't often do crafting sessions but this was a lovely opportunity for a relaxed chat over a cuppa, while making something to take home.

April lunch was delayed because of Easter this month, so it was great to see members today who enjoyed a lunch of gammon, potatoes & vegetables. Desert was orange/lemon cheesecake.
The entertainment was Fretmates from Holmfirth. They brought song sheets so everyone could sing along which they enjoyed.
Thank you to all the volunteers who helped on the day & SS for the great food. Jenny.

What a lovely celebration today for Friend to Friend's 30th Anniversary. Around 110 people came together for a delicious buffet lunch with entertainment by 4 magicians from Huddersfield Magic Circle and musician Simon Wood. We were delighted to be joined by founder Sheila Sinclair and former trustee and lead volunteer Val Hutchinson but sorry that some other key people from the charity's past were unable to attend, particularly former trustees Joan Trinder, Pat Craven and John and Kath Lines.
A very generous £480 was collected and has been split between Yorkshire Air Ambulance and the Forget me not Children's Hospice.

This afternoon some of our Holmfirth members joined ninety 7 and 8 year olds at Moorlands Primary School for a sponsored zumba session in aid of Friend to Friend. Many thanks to them and to Lucy, Barbara and Nina of Just Movement for making it such a success, and to the friends and family of the Moorlands pupils for kindly sponsoring them.
