Curious about English folk dance? This video gives you a real glimpse of what it feels like to be part of our club.

What you’ll see here is a group of dancers with a wonderfully wide range of experience — from those who’ve only attended no more than a dozen sessions to others who have been dancing for over 50 years. We had just one practice of this dance before filming, which makes what you’re seeing even more special.

One of the true joys of English folk dance is the mix of people it brings together. In this video alone, dancers span from their 20s through to their 80s, sharing the same floor, the same music, and the same sense of connection.

We place a strong emphasis on careful teaching and good technique, helping everyone build confidence and skill at their own pace. Just as importantly, we work to create a genuinely welcoming atmosphere. We use a non-verbal communication approach during dancing, so support is offered quietly and respectfully, without disrupting the flow. We also make a conscious effort not to single out mistakes — the focus is on learning together and enjoying the dance.
