The older class started a mini topic today in Art and we started to look at the historical art of the ancient Greeks!
The culture is rich in many art forms and loads of mythology that we can pull from to inspire the next few lessons
Today was "Mosaics".
Used as a hard wearing art form, that utilised basic masonry, stone, and eventually glass to create larger images built up from small fragments.
Typically used to depict landscapes, hero's hunts or battles, the gods and everyday life. But they started out just as very simple repetitive patterns. Moving on to the Greeks love for math and beauty to show symmetry then to the more classic full scale images we still discover today.
Sometimes this form of art was used to replicate great frescas that were lost from damage or wear, which is why we saw thus art form carried on for many more years with the Romans.
The kids were asked to create a basic piece today combining repetition, symmetry and the Typical boarder that would have been used by the Greeks. Well done to all!!
