We are sorry to announce that funding for the Get Ahead Employment project ceased and whilst we have been trying to secure additional funding, including from local partners in the current climate this has not been possible

We are continuing to offer a reduced service on a case by case basis as there is a significant need for our service both in the local community and beyond. Indeed the new Prime Minister has advocated the need for services like ours to get people into employment

Meet the Team: Aiysha

Meet Aiysha - our Partnership Development Manager

Aiysha has played an absolutely instrumental role in the success of the Get Ahead project, significantly contributing to its growth since its inception. Raising awareness of the service through her own personal connections and network as well as fostering connections with many partner organisations and other providers, Aiysha's dedication to helping those in need is evident in the substantial time and effort she has invested into the Get Ahead project. She has always shown an incredible passion for the work that we are delivering, engaging the community and giving her heart and soul to help change people's lives for the better and make a difference to the community.

When she is not hard at work, you can be sure that Aiysha is not sitting around at home. Aiysha is always travelling, whether it is driving from coast to coast around the UK, or taking flights to different countries around the globe ✈️
Aiysha will never pass up the opportunity to watch a good sunset. Just know that if the sun is setting on a beautiful evening, that Aiysha will be somewhere on a hilltop in the countryside or a beach by the ocean, enjoying the view 🌅
As she is a die hard Liverpool fan🔴, the Get Ahead team often liken Aiysha to Jurgen Klopp, a comparison which places a huge grin on her face 😅

One of Aiysha's previous colleagues described her as 'an upbeat person who always wears a smile and connects easily with others. Aiysha has been a pillar of support for the community and has a wealth of experience in her field.'

Aiysha is an inspiration for the Get Ahead team and a role model for them. A true leader, she is somebody that the team can turn to no matter what issue they face and they cannot thank her enough for her support and guidance both inside and outside of the workplace. Aiysha, we applaud you! 👏

A Get Ahead Success Story: 'Becoming More...'

Meet Shazad, a 24-year-old from our community who transformed his life with Get Ahead. Initially hesitant, he attended our Employment Clinic after a chat with our team during some outreach. Facing legal issues and a ma*****na addiction, Shazad sought change. 😞

Shazad's social circle consisted of many ex-offenders and drug users and he expressed concern over his own personal circumstances and informed the Get Ahead team that he was serious about making changes to his life as he wanted to make something of himself and not waste his life on the streets.

The team guided Shazad through CV updates, interview workshops, and mock interviews. The result? Shazad was able to secure himself a job working for a national company headquartered in the UK with over 10,000 employees across the country. Shazad informed the team that it was only thanks to them that Shazad was able to secure this role.

'Usually, whenever I go for an interview, I panic because my brain just shuts down and I freeze. My manager told me that my interview with her was the best interview she's had in a long time and that's all thanks to you. You guys are like magicians.' 🧙‍♂️

Meet the Team: Oways

Meet Oways - our Senior Project Officer.

Oways has been a pivotal part of Get Ahead and its success since it began. He has shown unwavering passion and commitment in helping others and helping shape the direction of travel. As Senior Project Officer he is a source of knowledge for the team and thought highly of by everyone that works with him😁

If you know Oways, you will know how injury prone he is🙄
However, when he is not injured, Oways likes to travel ✈️ He has recently returned his trip to New York City over the festive period and has travelled to Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Morocco and Turkey in only the last 2 years. Oways is very dedicated to personal development and he spends much of his free time studying and working on developing new skills✨

'I have to thank the Karima Foundation for the incredible opportunities that they have provided me and for all the support and guidance that I have received from them. I would not be the man that I am today without them and I cannot express my gratitude enough!'

It has been a pleasure to see Oways' journey to get to where he is today and we wish him even more success as he continues on his path. Keep up the good work Oways, and maybe try to pick up less injuries😅

Meet the Team: Safina

Meet Safina - one of our Project Officers, usually based in the Aylesbury area.

Before getting involved with the Get Ahead project, Safina had already spent quite a bit of time as a member of the Karima community. Safina signed on with the Get Ahead project in July 2023 and hasn't looked back since. She is a very friendly individual, always getting along very easily with the claimants that we work with.

Safina loves to go for walks in the countryside (as you can see in the photos above) and is always open to trying new things. She loves to read, and is currently reading 'The Silk Roads: A New History Of The World'. Safina spends much of her free time with her family and friends.

We are very grateful to have Safina as a part of our team, lighting up our office with her smile. Keep it up Safina!

We hope you all had a great time over the holiday period! We know we are a little late, the team has been incredibly busy since returning from the holidays. Nevertheless, we are back on our social media to keep you up to date with everything that we have going on. 🥳

2023 was an absolutely brilliant year for the Get Ahead project and we are looking forward to the same in 2024.

Case Study: Bobs Inspiring Journey 🌟

Bob possessed extensive knowledge in the business world and had held the position of managing director in various companies throughout his career.

His career had been marked by success as a business owner and area manager for a variety of predominantly retail outlets. However, a domestic incident led to his arrest and a brief period of incarceration. Upon his release, Bob found himself battling depression and grappling with long-term unemployment. It was at this point that Get Ahead was introduced to Bob, and we sat down to understand his needs and how we could assist him.

The initial challenge was to assess Bob's current state of mind and determine if he had the motivation and self-esteem to rebuild his life. Bob was at a turning point and expressed a strong desire to start anew. The first step was to condense his overly extensive five-page CV into a more concise and precise two-page document. With the revised CV in hand, Bob embarked on his job search with renewed confidence.

During a follow-up appointment two weeks later, Bob shared the fantastic news that he had secured employment at a Public House. He was overjoyed to have a sense of purpose and to be getting up every day with a positive outlook. This change alone had a transformative impact on his mental health.

While Get Ahead recognises that our assistance played a role in Bob's journey, it is truly Bob’s determination and resilience that led to his successful comeback.

We will continue to stay in touch with Bob regularly to provide ongoing support and monitor his progress post-employment. Bob's story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the ability to overcome challenges through resilience and determination.

Well done to everyone involved with Bob's Journey!

🌟 Karima Fundraiser for Ongoing Homelessness Relief 🏠

Get Ahead and Karima Al-Marwaziyya are working closely with Wycombe Homeless Connection to provide sleeping bags to those braving the unbearable cold this winter.

The Karima Foundation has a long and successful relationship with Wycombe Homeless Connection. Those using the Wycombe Homeless Connection services are also able to access the help and support that we provide through the Get Ahead project, supporting people back into employment and improving their prospects.
