Our assessed volunteers and their special pet dogs visit for an hour or two most weeks.

Wag & Company is the only visiting dog charity befriending older dog lovers in their own homes as well as in care or in hospitals across the North East of England. Wag & Company is a registered charity enabling visiting dog teams to build meaningful relationships with older dog lovers across the North East of England who miss company and the friendship of a dog. Our professionally assessed volunteers and their dogs, visit people in their own homes as well as in care and medical establishments.

We are very sad to hear the news today that recently retired and very beautiful Friendship Dog, Pringle Richards, died on Saturday. Pringle was one of our longest serving Wag dogs having joined us less than a year after our launch in 2017; Pringle was one of the first canine home visitors in the North East.

Pringle had a huge personality and she made people smile, always. For the first 3 years, this lovely girl visited Mrs Peggy V most weeks at her home in Newcastle, followed by Mrs Elsie M also in Newcastle, for over 4 years, ultimately attending Elsie’s funeral in January this year. Elsie adored Pringle and loved nothing more than telling people about their special relationship, including local and national media! Elsie always said that Pringle “understood her” and that stroking her head “made her stress lift” ♥️. Pringle will live on in the history of Wag & Company.

Sending love and condolences to Emma and the family on the loss of their special girl - she will be very sadly missed.

Rest easy lovely Pringle, what a legacy, 9 years a Friendship Dog, changing lives and making everyone smile.. ♥️💔♥️

Mrs B is an amazing 93 and she lives alone in her own home in Newton Aycliffe & Spennymoor after the death of her husband. They always had dogs, her last was a much loved Poodle, but for health reasons it’s not possible to have one of her own and she misses having a dog in her life terribly. She isn’t able to get out much anymore either, so she’s been spending a great deal of time inside alone and she had started to feel pretty lonely. Introduced by her GP, Wag friends were definitely the answer!

Enter beautiful Corgi Amanda Green who started visiting Mrs B at the beginning of August with her ‘mum’ Karen. Mrs B was hugely taken with Amanda and the feeling is mutual! Visits are happening every week now and as you can see, Amanda has made herself right at home. Such a tough job this befriending malarky isn't it Amanda; great job lovely girl.. 🐶❤️ 🐶

FD Flossie Farman visits everyone at Seaview Care Home in Saltburn most weeks with her ‘Dad’ Chris.

This week was Flossie’s second birthday and the residents lovingly baked her some doggie birthday cakes; banana and honey topped with mashed potato icing! Yum! The lucky birthday girl also had a special crown and everyone sang happy birthday 🎶

Flossie absolutely loved her birthday party and her special cakes!

We're welcoming beautiful new girl Nora the Greyhound to the Wag family.

Nora will be visiting Mrs H in her own home near Darlington with her "Mum" Andi. Mrs H is really looking forward to seeing her new Wag friends. She lost her husband last year and now her health challenges mean she’s spending more time at home alone than she’d like, which is quite isolating. Mrs H always had dogs of her own, but now it’s not possible to have one in her life, she misses them terribly. Regular visits from lovely Nora (and Andi too) will make all the difference! Here's Wag Team Kate and Friendship Dog We**ie on one of their visits to the Connie Lewcock Centre in Newcastle.

The centre provides short term care as well as community rehabilitation for people recently discharged from hospital.

In these challenging times, the need for our special visitors has never been greater. We're welcoming lovely new Friendship Dog Molly the Golden Retriever to the Wag family. Molly will be visiting Mrs S in her own home near Cramlington with her 'Mum' Angela.

Mrs S lives alone. She lost her husband a number of years ago and then her beloved Labradors. Now that her health challenges affect her going out and about she’s started to spend more time than she’d like on her own. Referred by her GP, regular visits from lovely Molly and Angela are just what the Doctor ordered! Welcome to Team Wag beautiful girl.. 🐶❤🐶

Here’s beautiful little Islay visiting her bestie, Mrs Sandra C, in her own home in Stockton.

Islay and her ‘mum' Janet have visited Mrs C for nearly 3 years now. Mrs C is a huge dog lover, she always had Shelties of her own, but now she lives alone and she can’t get out and about like she used to, so regular visits from her special Wag friends, Islay and Janet make all the difference.

Islay is a huge cuddle monster and is more than happy to swap treats for cuddles which suits Mrs C just fine! Great job lovely girl.. 🐶❤🐶

Friendship Dog Buddy visits everyone at Allington House Care Home in Billingham with his 'dad' Paul. He’s a huge hit with all the residents and has made lots of friends that look forward to his regular visits. Lovely boy Buddy!.. 🐶❤️🐶
