🌲CHRISTMAS COUNTDOWN BEGINS

The 1st of November means one thing at Hemsworth Food Bank: the start of seven weeks of hard work to help make sure nobody in the community we cover goes without this Christmas.

We know this winter is going to be difficult for some people. We’re already seeing an increase in the number of people visiting as the weather changes, and we hear the worries and concerns they are facing.

So please, if you would like to support a cause this Christmas, consider helping those right here on your doorstep—the people living amongst us who are struggling quietly.

We are often overlooked by the bigger businesses and companies that support other organisations, so we depend entirely on the kindness and generosity of local people. Last year, we received amazing support, and we’re hoping for that same kindness again in 2026.

❤️ Please help Hemsworth Food Bank by donating directly to us. Donations can be left at:

• Hemsworth Community Centre
• Hoptimist Pub
• St Helen’s Church
• Sacred Heart Church
• Methodist Church
• Fellowship Church

We can also arrange to collect donations from you.

We work alongside schools, social services and support agencies, and we also accept self-referrals, to make sure your donations reach those within our community who need them most.

Thank you for helping us look after our community this Christmas. Every donation makes a difference. ❤️

💚Hemsworth Food Bank — Our Guidelines and Why We Have Them.💚 #

We are trusted with grants, donations and incredible community support. With that trust comes a responsibility to make sure the food and items we receive reach people who need them.

We would love to give food parcels to everyone who asks, without any limits, but our resources can only stretch so far. Having a fair process helps us make sure support remains available for those facing difficult times.

Please don’t judge someone’s circumstances by what you see or hear. You may not know what they are going through, and we cannot share someone’s private circumstances to explain why they receive help.

Claims that we only support people who are unemployed or experiencing drug or alcohol dependency are untrue. We support people from all backgrounds, including many of those in employment. Please challenge these rumours if you hear them, as they can discourage people from asking for help and damage the support our food bank relies on.

How our food parcel support works?

Everyone living in the area we support can access three initial food parcels without having to explain or justify their difficulties. Our usual booking and identification requirements still apply.

These parcels can be collected over three consecutive weeks or spread out over time, whenever an emergency or difficult situation arises.

What happens after three parcels?

If someone still needs help, we have a respectful, confidential conversation about their circumstances and what further support may help.

For example, someone may be:

• Starting a new job and waiting for their first wages.
• Off work because of illness.
• Waiting for a new Universal Credit claim to be processed.

In situations like these, we can continue supporting them, reviewing their needs each week.

Where there are ongoing financial difficulties, we help people access appropriate advice and support. Further parcels then depend on them engaging with that support and receiving continued referrals from the organisation or adviser helping them.

💚 We treat everyone with the same respect and apply our process fairly. Support is based on need, not someone’s background or employment status.

We take the trust placed in us seriously. Every donation is given to help our community, and we have a responsibility to use it carefully and fairly.

We understand that people may not always agree with our decisions, but we must maintain these boundaries to keep helping those who need us.

Thank you to everyone who donates, volunteers and supports Hemsworth Food Bank. Your kindness makes this work possible. 💚
