Just when it seems like things might be easing and fewer people are struggling, we suddenly face several hectic weeks and are reminded that the need is only growing. So many people are finding life difficult without us even realising it, we have those who are living quietly among us with little or no family, or close friends. We have elderly residents and vunerable adults with no one to turn to for support. If you know someone in this situation, please take a moment to check in on them, reach out to someone who can offer support, or simply make sure they’re doing okay.

Whenever support agencies alert us to someone who needs help, Hemsworth Food Bank does everything possible to respond. Our volunteers always do their best to assist whenever we can, often all week, outside our usual opening hours.

Over the past month, we’ve received several requests for help from organisations including Vico Homes, Social Services, community groups, and the NHS. Thanks to your continued support, we were able to provide food, cleaning supplies, toiletries, nappies and pet food to those who needed it most.

Thank you for being such a caring community and continuing to support Hemsworth Food Bank ❤️

Can you spare a couple of hours on a Thursday evening?

We’re looking for volunteers to help us on Thursday evenings, between 8:00pm and 9:30pm — although we may finish a little earlier.

The role involves joining our volunteer team to collect surplus food from Tesco in Helmsworth, helping to load and unload the car, sorting through the items, and setting up the display ready for our morning session.

In return for your time, you’ll receive access to Citizen Coin, which recognises and rewards people for doing social good. You can earn coins through volunteering and community activities, then exchange them for discounts on goods and services.

Citizen Coin can also provide a printable record of your volunteering hours, which can be added to your CV for future job applications.

You don’t need to be a driver, but you will need to be able to lift and carry items.

If you’re strong, reliable, and would like to help support your local community, please send us a message.

Hemsworth Food Bank is looking for 2 volunteers to join our team and to help assist our driver on Thursday evenings between 8.15pm and 9.15pm. Duties include collecting donated items from a local supermarket, unloading the car, and helping to set up the donations. Some items can be heavy, such as potatoes and vegetables.
No car needed as we have a driver, this is just to support in unloading and setting up.

A volunteer to collect donations from Ackworth Co-op on Friday mornings between 7am and 8am and deliver them to Hemsworth Food Bank.

Additionally, we are seeking volunteer delivery drivers to deliver food parcels to the local areas of Kinsley, Fitzwilliam, and South Hiendley. This role is required on Friday mornings between 9am and 10am. Volunteers must hold a full driving licence and inform their insurance company that they are using their own vehicle for deliveries. A basic DBS check is required (this can be arranged), and a character reference will also be needed

On Friday morning, the food bank was so very busy. It was great to see the sun shining and lots of people waiting to support what we do.
We had so many visitors coming along to take a share of the food we had available, which would otherwise have gone into landfill, and also to recycle some of the clothing and household items that had been donated. We had lots of people supporting us by bringing donations too.❤️

Volunteers have worked hard all week on our school holiday food parcels, preparing them and sending out information to local schools and support agencies. Lots of families came along on Friday to collect the parcels to help support their children during the school holidays, we know the extra cost school holidays bring on top of extra childcare etc.

We worked with individual families and support agencies who sent referrals for those who were finding things very financially difficult this week. We supported turned with food/cleaning and toiletries. We know how hard this can be to contact and ask for support but please know that this is what the foodbank is here for, to support the community.
Without each and every one of you who supports us through donations to our bank account, or donations to our drop-off points, or donations of clothing and other items, we couldn’t do what we do. Thank you everyone ❤️

A great big thank you to all our volunteers who give their time to do the shopping, who collect donations, collect weekly from supermarkets, answer phone calls and emails and generally supporting the food bank each day of the week. Who turn up every week and listen to people from all walks of life and seek help and support for them.
Our volunteers really are a great team of people.❤️❤️
