Today, members of the ESCAPE team are attending the University of Derby for their 'Forensic Psychology Networking & Futures Event'.

The team are joining other professionals and organisations, to connect with undergraduate students and explore how forensic psychology links to real-world work.

The event provides a valuable opportunity for students to gain insight into specialist services such as Salcare, explore the diverse ways professionals support individuals and communities, and discover how their studies can translate into meaningful careers across a range of specialist fields.

We’re looking forward to connecting with students, sharing experiences and exploring how today’s conversations can help shape tomorrow’s opportunities! 🤝✨

🎃 Domestic abuse doesn't take a half-term break.🧡

Halloween is a time for spooky costumes, scary stories and things that go bump in the night… but for some people, fear is an everyday reality behind closed doors.

As families and communities come together this half term, let’s remember that:

🧡 Everyone deserves to feel safe at home and in their relationships.
🧡 A listening ear, a kind word and non-judgemental support can make a difference.
🧡 Help is available — and no one has to face abuse alone.

We’re here to help. Our service offers support to people affected by domestic abuse, providing a safe, understanding and non-judgemental space to talk through your experiences and explore your options.

🎃 This Halloween, let’s look beyond the masks, challenge the silence surrounding domestic abuse and help make home a place of safety.

Join us at The Grammar in Heanor on Wednesday 11 November for The Grammar’s Triptych: A Rededication. Created by artist Frederick Cayley Robinson, the memorial honours 57 former pupils who lost their lives in the First World War.

We’d love you to join us for an evening of remembrance by candlelight, with a service led by Rev. Lisa Shemilt, refreshments from Infinite Wellbeing CIC and poppy-making activities for all ages from Furthest from the Sea.

The event is free, and up to 150 people can attend. A limited number of tickets are available to reserve through Eventbrite. Please book one ticket in your own name, and ask everyone attending with you to register for their own ticket.

Historic England’s Neighbourhood Heritage Grants are offering up to £15,000 for community-led projects that use local heritage to help residents shape the future of their neighbourhood.

Key Details:
- Grant Amount: Up to £15,000 (smaller applications welcome)
- Who Can Apply: Constituted community groups, charities, CICs, and local authorities.
- Key Requirement: Projects must be community-led and show how heritage gives local people a stronger voice

Putting the brakes on rip-off private parking charges! 🚗🛑

Having helped so many local residents challenge unfair private parking charges, I know just how frustrating and costly these fines can be.

Today, the government laid a new Private Parking Code of Practice in Parliament to stop drivers being ripped off. Motorists will now get guaranteed grace periods, the right to cancel fines caused by breakdowns or medical emergencies, and capped £20 charges for minor input errors.

It is another practical measure to tackle the daily frustrations that cost people money.

This Saturday is World Mental Health Day, and a reminder: you're not on your own 💚

It’s days like this that remind me how grateful I am for our support workers, mental health nurses, counsellors and volunteers, who support people across Amber Valley every single day.

For too long, getting help has meant long waits or not knowing where to turn. But that’s starting to change.

Across England, we are seeing up to 100 new walk-in community mental health centres offering support without a referral, and new mental health emergency departments so people in crisis are seen quickly by specialists.

There's still a long way to go, but it's a step in the right direction.
