Freshly baked cookies!

Our Cooking Group had a fantastic session last week, with young people baking delicious chocolate cookies from scratch.

Through activities like this, young people build confidence, develop practical life skills, strengthen friendships, and learn to work as part of a team. They also experience the sense of achievement that comes from creating something themselves.

The kitchen provides a safe and supportive space where conversations happen naturally, relationships are strengthened, and young people can grow and thrive.

If you'd like to support opportunities like this, whether through volunteering, partnering with us, or simply finding out more about our youth work, we'd love to hear from you.

Podcast Project Update!

During the half-term break, our Podcast Project group came together to create the jingle for their upcoming podcast!

The day was filled with creativity as the group explored different sounds, rhythms and musical ideas, experimenting to discover what worked best and what didn't. It was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to share their ideas, develop new skills and work together to create something unique.

A huge thank you to Southend YMCA All in Music for supporting the session and helping make it such a fun and inspiring day.

We can't wait to share the finished podcast with you all – watch this space! 🎧✨

Jack Petchey Award Winner, Elodie 🎉

The Rochford Bar ‘n’ Bus Team would like to congratulate Elodie on being nominated and winning the Jack Petchey Award.

Elodie has been a valued member of the KG detached group and always shows up with a smile, no matter what is going on in her personal life or how miserable the weather may be. Elodie’s beautiful personality, full of joy and life, naturally draws others into the group, even if it is as simple as colouring together, exploring favourite fidgets of the week, or playing a game.

Further to this, Elodie recently took part in an interview panel to help Bar ‘n’ Bus recruit new members of staff. Elodie brought wisdom and insight, helping us make the right decision.

We want you to know how much you are appreciated and that your efforts to make others feel valued, welcome and included do not go unnoticed. We are incredibly proud of you and look forward to seeing what opportunities come your way in the future.

Keep being yourself and never stop smiling!

What a fantastic Quiz Night we had at Bar 'n' Bus last Saturday!

We're delighted to share some photos from a truly memorable evening filled with laughter, friendly competition, and a wonderful community spirit.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the night such a success:

✔️Our quiz master for keeping us entertained and challenged throughout the evening.
✔️Our trustees, who each led a table and helped make everyone feel welcome and involved throughout the evening.
✔️All the teams and participants who came along and made the event so much fun.
✔️Our amazing staff and volunteers who worked behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly.

A very special thank you to Steph, Community Champion at Tesco Pitsea, whose support went above and beyond. Steph generously provided the teas, coffees, and biscuits for the evening, as well as helping with prizes. Your kindness and continued support helped make the event a welcoming and enjoyable night for everyone.

We would also like to thank Sarah, Community Champion at Asda Eastgate, for her generous donation of prizes, which added to the excitement of the evening.

Take a look through the photos, tag your friends and teammates, and enjoy reliving some of the highlights from a fantastic evening!

Do you know a young person aged 10–16 who loves to sing? 🎶

We're inviting young people aged 10–16 to join Young Voices for a fun and friendly group singing experience.

Whether they're already confident singers or simply enjoy singing along to their favourite songs, this is a great opportunity to build confidence, make new friends and enjoy music in a welcoming environment. No auditions are required, just enthusiasm and a willingness to have fun!

Young Voices is brought to you by Bar 'n' Bus, Yellow Door and the Greater Essex Music Hub, with support from the Jack Petchey Foundation. The project will continue in September, allowing participants to continue their singing journey.

This week, two of our youth workers stepped out from their usual settings and into something a little different, joining sector colleagues from across Essex at the Power of Movement Youth Mental Health Conference, hosted by Active Essex Foundation at the beautiful Braxted Park Estate.

This wasn’t just a conference day. It was a space to listen, reflect, and connect with others working across health, education, policing, local authority and the VCSE sector, all focused on one shared goal: improving mental health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people across Essex.

With powerful contributions from speakers including Dr William Bird MBE and Ellie Challis, British Paralympic Swimmer, the day highlighted something we see every day in our work: movement, relationships, and community all play a vital role in supporting young people’s mental health.

Our youth workers bring everything they learn back into local sessions, helping shape the support we offer young people on the ground.

Behind every session we run, there’s work like this happening: learning, collaborating, and making sure young people’s voices and needs stay at the centre.
