The Chair and Clerk met last week with SCC Cllr Matt Furniss regarding an update on the Place Making (improving the local environment) scheme in Kings Road, Shalford, and would like to update residents with the following information.

Option 3 was the most popular option in the consultation last year, followed by Option 2.
Option 3 requires a certain length of time for the Commons Application to be processed as the proposal was to move the current parking spaces to the grass area opposite which is defined as Common Land.
Proceeding with Option 2 as the timescale for completion does not allow for Option 3.
Funding for this Place Making is available until the end of the financial year 2026/7 (beginning of April 2027).
It is hoped that the works will be done over the Summer months of 2026.
Option 2 delivers no reduction in parking spaces currently in the slip road - 1 a blue badge space plus space for 3 or 4 vehicles, depending on size and sensible parking. There are currently 4 spaces plus 1 x blue badge space.
There will be 2 new spaces in the newly constructed lay-by at the end of the slip road.
We will be meeting with the SCC design team in January to see if there is potential for more car park spaces.
SCC have been keeping local businesses informed and they are aware of their concerns.
You can still see the proposed layout of the scheme using the following link:

🌞 Shalford Village Hall Goes Solar! 🌞

We’re delighted to share that Shalford Village Hall now has its very own solar panel array – complete with 30kWh of battery storage!

This means the hall can make the most of the sunshine during the day and store energy to power evening activities – great news for the many local groups who use the hall.

By investing in the maximum solar array, we’ve combined great design with great performance – helping to cut running costs, reduce energy bills, and even generate a small income that could support future energy-saving projects in our community.

A huge thank you to Fiona White, Matt Furniss, Catherine Huston and Bob Hughes for their support, and to Insta Renewables for the installation.

This project is part of Shalford’s ongoing move towards smarter, more sustainable energy use – helping bring Surrey up to speed with the rest of the country in embracing the benefits of rooftop solar.

If you’re interested in learning more about this or getting involved in other local initiatives such as the Shalford Orchard, we’d love to hear from you: 📩 [email protected]

Stay tuned for details about the official opening event soon! 🌿
