Good news for Grangetown 👇

A bridge between two communities, and possibly a whole new way to cross Cardiff.

Plans for a new walking and cycling route linking Grangetown and Butetown have been approved.

The 165m bridge across the Taff is part of wider regeneration plans for the Bay area.

Would you use it? 🚶🚴

Hats off to whoever made this statement about pavement parking in Grangetown today. All the cars obstructing the pavement on part of Sloper Road had this message chalked on their windows. If you’re walking along the pavement opposite the Gripoly Mills Retail Park to Ninian Park Primary you’re squeezed onto a couple of feet of the path under low hanging trees, especially difficult if you’ve got a pushchair or are in a wheelchair.

Isn’t it about time there was action on pavement parking? Pavements are for pedestrians, not vehicles, and cars parked on them make it really difficult for people going about their daily lives. Not to mention dangerous if you have to walk in the road to get around the obstruction. You can’t say you promote active travel unless you remove the barriers.

Thanks so much to all our wonderful volunteers who help make Grangetown a nicer, cleaner, greener place to live! And as well as making a difference to Grangetown, volunteering is brilliant for helping people connect and make friends. Also for getting some fresh air and exercise.

Come and give it a try! Our next monthly litterpick is on Saturday 20 June 10am-12pm, when we’ll be cleaning up Grange Gardens. Meeting at 10am at the Holmesdale St end of St Fagan’s St by the park. We guarantee you’ll enjoy it 👌

On the 40th Anniversary of Volunteer Week a big thank you to all the Litter Picking volunteers in Cardiff! Look at what you all collected over the last year!

It was lovely to join the congregation of St Dyfrig and St Samson Grangetown this morning for a special church service celebrating caring for the environment.

We did a short reading as part of the service. Father Richard Green’s sermon focused on the role volunteers play in keeping our area clean, beautiful and welcoming. And there were prayers afterwards outside the church under the statue of St Francis of Assisi, who is a saint especially associated with care for nature and the environment. Then a cup of tea and some delicious homemade jam tarts!

Thanks for reaching out and making us so welcome. Hope you’ll be able to join us at one of our future litterpicks! Our next one is Saturday 20 June 10-12 when we’ll be cleaning up Grange Gardens, meeting at the junction of St Fagan’s St/ Holmesdale St.

Really excited to pick up a selection of native plants and wildflowers today to replenish the Stockland Street planters - they’re going to look fantastic! And they’ll attract so many bees and pollinators. Just waiting on the compost so we can get planting.

Big thanks to Cardiff Local Nature Partnership Wild About Cardiff 🙏🌺🐝
