On 11 June our speaker was Maryna Gorbunova who, although very well known to us, was introduced by Ross Finnie. Maryna went on to give us an excellent presentation on the Inverclyde Ukrainian Club from its early beginnings through to the present day where it is flourishing in the Dutch Gable House as a SCIO. The breadth of their activities from art to baking and yoga to cultural visits is truly astonishing, driven by Marina and her fellow trustees. Jim Blair proposed the vote of thanks.

End of our 50th Rotary Year

Our 2025/26 Presidential Year ends our historic year on 25th June for current President Allister Boyle. This is our handover meeting where the club’s badge of office passes to Alan Wheelans and Vice President Pat Dobie for the year 2026/2027.

During this term, President Allister was in the chair to preside over our 50th Charter dinner since our formation in 1976, when our first meetings were held at the Bay Hotel.

The club returns in August, and we have a full diary of events and fundraising activities planned. The focus for this Presidential year is on recruiting new members.

Rotary has long been associated with business leaders and retirees, but this perception is outdated. Today’s Rotary is diverse, inclusive, and open to anyone who desires to give back, build friendships, and create meaningful change—regardless of age or professional background.

Before we break, on Thursday, 11th June, our guest speaker and fellow Rotarian from our twin club in Mykolaiv, Ukraine, is Maryna Gorbunova, who is speaking about the Ukrainian Society in Scotland.
