UNISON Fife Branch

UNISON Fife Branch This is the official page of UNISON Fife - The public sector union. That’s what we’re here for. But we also do a lot more.

UNISON Fife represents employees of the council and workers in voluntary organisations in and around Fife. We negotiate for better pay and conditions, help individuals in trouble and campaign for a safer, fairer society. UNISON is Britain’s biggest public service union, representing more than 1.3 million people across the UK’s public services. UNISON members are people working in the public servic

es, for private contractors providing public services and the essential utilities. They include manual and white collar staff working full or part time in local authorities, the NHS, colleges and schools, the electricity, gas and water industries, transport, trusts and the voluntary sector. Most people join a union because they want protection at work – help with pay and conditions of service, legal or health and safety advice or representation in case things go wrong at work. UNISON negotiates on pay and working conditions at every level – local, regional and national. Being a UNISON member gives you a range of benefits and unbeatable deals. Every member of UNISON belongs to a local branch which is made up of people working for the same employer. Local stewards are there to represent you at work and help find the answers to your problems. They are volunteers and play a vital role in recruiting new members and organising your branch. If you have a problem, talk to your local steward. If they can’t handle the problem on their own, they can talk to other branch officers or full – time union experts on your behalf. Anyone can face problems at work sometimes but if you are a member of UNISON, you don’t have to face them alone. We can provide advice or representation on things like pay, rotas, leave and sickness procedures. We are also there to help you make sure your workplace is healthy and safe, support you in case of disciplinary action, dismissals or redundancy.

🚨 MATCHDAY! 🚨

It’s Scotland’s second game this evening and, by now, productivity across Fife may have mysteriously dipped… 🤔⚽💙

The jerseys are on, the snacks are ready, and we’ve all become international football experts overnight! 🇸🇨😂

From all of us at UNISON Fife, we’re sending the Scotland squad our very best wishes. Here’s hoping for a performance to remember, plenty of goals, and absolutely no hiding behind the sofa in the last five minutes! 😅

Come on Scotland! Let’s make it a night to celebrate! 💙🏴

⚽️ Football Fever has arrived in Fife schools! 🍽️

Many schools across Fife have been getting into the World Cup spirit with a special Football Fever-themed lunch. 🏆

A huge thank you to Mags, our steward at Cowdenbeath Primary, for sharing photos of the catering team’s amazing efforts, and to Carol and her team at Caskieberran Primary for getting involved too! 👏

Have your school catering team joined in the fun? We’d love to see your photos in the comments and celebrate the fantastic work of our members across Fife. ⚽🍴💜

Motion 35 Preventing Outsourcing with Robust Public Interest Tests.

Rousing speeches to stop further outsourcing and to bring back inhouse services already lost.

The public pound shouldn’t be used to line the pockets of fat cats !

Too many CEOs, too many Finance depts, too many HR depts, too much profit going in to the pockets of private companies.

And not forgetting a wee sing song from Rosie 🎤

Motion 16 Closing the Gender Pay Gap for Good

Workers continue to
experience significant disparities in earnings linked to gender, ethnicity, disability,

Prioritise Safety. Prevent Harm. Transform Occupational Health

Conference notes that the scale and urgency of the UK’s ill health crisis demand
bold and systemic transformation. The UK’s economic inactivity has worsened more
than in other OECD countries, while other nations invest more in prevention and
rapid rehabilitation. Cuts to public services have intensified work pressures too and
are often the root cause of many problems that UNISON members face.
Our understanding of Occupational Health (OH) in the UK must expand beyond its
narrow interpretive boundaries. There is a complex interplay between multiple
systems, stakeholders, and responsible bodies. Conference believes that prevention,
eliminating hazards before they cause harm, must be central to any approach, in line
with the ILO’s comprehensive framework for occupational health and safety. Good OH
policy should prioritise anticipating and mitigating workplace risks, rather than relying
on reactive responses after incidents occur.
