Urban Roots

Urban Roots Urban Roots is a community led organisation working across the Southside of Glasgow.

We are committed to working with local people on projects that improve the environment and health of the area through a range of activities including community gardening, conservation and biodiversity, and planet friendly living. Our work aims to inspire people and communities to connect with nature, and take practical action that tackles the root causes of climate change. Our volunteer teams take

on lots of different projects such as transforming derelict or unused green spaces into thriving, blossoming community gardens where herbs and vegetables, fruit and flowers can be grown.

What a weekend! 🌿⛺

Some of the wonderful women from our Women in the Woods group, facilitated by Shelby on Wednesdays, headed off to Comrie Croft with Harriet, Shelby, and Jess for a weekend camping adventure.

The weather certainly tested us on Friday as we pitched tents and set up camp in what can only be described as monsoon-like rain! Thankfully, the clouds cleared, and we were rewarded with a weekend of glorious sunshine.

Over the weekend, we enjoyed quality time together, beautiful walks, a relaxing sauna, delicious campfire cooking, and plenty of laughter along the way.

It was a fantastic weekend that passed far too quickly. A huge thank you to everyone who came along and helped make it such a special experience.

Here's to the next adventure! 💚🔥

We had our first therapeutic gardening group yesterday for people living with dementia down at the Toryglen Community Base Garden.
Everyone had a lovely time including our staff - lots of memories surfacing of gardening when we were younger. We filled two big flower presses and made bird seed balls.
We still have space for a few more people - please get in touch if you know anyone who might be interested.

Jess joined Toryglen Primary School for their Green Week. It was a wee bit dreich on the day, putting a stop to our planned outdoor session.

Instead, we planted some wildflower seeds and built a bug, discussing the minibeasts we might have seen had the weather not been so awful.
