📆CORPS MEMORABLE DATE - 17/06/1775 - The Battle of Bunker Hill📆

The 17th of June marks the date of the famous Battle of Bunker Hill - an attack launched to remove a rebel American force from the highlands surrounding the city of Boston, Massachusetts, in order to protect the British garrison holding the city from American artillery.

Two attacks failed, with the third assault supported by a company of Royal Marines under Major John Pitcairn - who lost his life in the fighting - finally breaking the American hold over the fortifications at Bunker Hill and Breed's Hill.

📆CORPS MEMORABLE DATE - 14/06/1982 - Liberation of the Falkland Islands📆

The 14th of June marks the end of the Falklands War in 1982. 127 ships - both Royal Navy and Merchant, and both 3 Commando Brigade and 5th Infantry Brigade were mobilised to counter the Argentine invasion.

The Royal Marines were integral to the campaign to free the islands.

44 years on, we remember the 255 Armed Forces personnel who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

📆CORPS MEMORABLE DATE: 6th-8th of June - D-Day and the Battle of Port-en-Bessin📆

On this day, 82 years ago, at 0950 hrs, No. 47 Commando (Royal Marines) landed at Gold Beach as part of Operation Neptune, otherwise known as D-Day.

Their objective: capture the town of Port-en-Bessin to be used as a fuel depot and potential command post by General Montgomery, Allied Ground Forces Commander.

Delayed and understrength due to German sea defences, the Commando successfully captured the town on the 8th of June after a 2-day battle, while taking further losses in the fighting, with less than 200 Marines surviving to see further combat across Normandy and the wider Western Front.

The battle has been called "the most spectacular of all commando exploits during the actual invasion [of Normandy]" by historian Sir Robert Lockhart!

The Colours are the ceremonial symbols of a unit, and represent loyalty, honour and tradition.

‼️Operation Rebuild is GO‼️

We are so excited to begin the relaunch of Sea Cadets Fleetwood's Royal Marines Cadets Detachment in earnest!

With the support of the wider Royal Marines Cadets organisation, including our parent units 1 Troop Bravo Company Royal Marines Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets - Bravo Company, NW Area Sea Cadets Corps, we are hopeful that we will be able to re-establish our Detachment in the coming months.
