Temporary access changes near Maternity at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital this weekend (16 to 18 Oct)

Work on our new maternity theatre reaches a major milestone this weekend as the new modular theatre is lifted into place.

To keep everyone safe, the road and footpaths between Maternity and Pathology (past the Bowel Screening Hub) will be closed from 8:00am on Friday 16 October through to Sunday night.

There will be safe access to the Maternity building at all times.

We have planned alternative routes for pedestrians and vehicles, look for the signs on site, or see the map. Visit our website for full details.

Last chance to have your say on our Personalised Care Toolkit!

Did you see or use our maternity videos, leaflets, posters, or online information during pregnancy?

You may have seen them online or in hospital. Your midwife or doctor might have given them to you.

We would like to know if they helped you feel informed and involved in decisions about your care.

⏰ The survey closes today, 20 September 2026.

As of 21st September 2026, Gateshead Maternity Services are implementing a self-referral form that will allow you to directly refer for your antenatal and postnatal community care.

This form is for people who live and are registered with a GP in Gateshead. If you live outside of Gateshead, please refer yourself to your local maternity unit for community care or contact your GP practice for advice. This does not affect your choice of where to give birth, and you can still choose a different hospital to the locality you live in at a later stage.

To do this, follow the link to the online form:

đź’™ Compassion deserves to be recognised.

Behind every memory box offered, every gentle explanation and every moment a family is given to say goodbye, there is often a healthcare professional doing everything they can to make an unbearable experience a little more bearable.

Our You Rock campaign is your opportunity to thank the person whose kindness stayed with you.

Each month, one nominated healthcare professional will receive a special You Rock Box, filled with a keepsake and wellbeing treats to remind them just how valued they are.

Who made a difference to your family?

Nominate them here:
đź”— https://www.cognitoforms.com/_4Louis/YouRockNomination

Please nominate one individual healthcare professional. Nominations are valid for the month in which they are submitted and do not roll over.

A small nomination could give someone the recognition they never knew they needed. đź’›
