Today, the UK Right To Food Commission have written to the Prime Minister raising urgent concerns over rising food insecurity, increasing food inflation and reports of potential dynamic pricing for food in supermarkets.
With 14 million people across the UK already living with food insecurity, we are calling for immediate action to protect families struggling to afford basic essentials.
Our message is clear:
* Food is a human right, not a luxury.
* Dynamic pricing for food must never be introduced.
* Household incomes must rise for those most at risk.
* Support for community food hubs and grassroots organisations must be strengthened.
* Excessive profiteering while families go hungry cannot continue.
The evidence gathered by the Commission across Liverpool, Newcastle, Aberdare, Cardiff and Belfast shows that food insecurity is driving health inequalities, damaging life opportunities and deepening poverty in communities across the country.
We urge the Government to act now.
