12-Year-Old “Orkneyinga Legacy” was released in 2018 as a limited edition of just 6,000 bottles specifically to support local history.
Instead of going strictly to profit, a percentage of the proceeds from every bottle sold was donated to The Orkneyinga Saga Centre in Orphir, Orkney, to help protect and renovate the island’s historic Norse sites and monuments.
Additionally, while the standard Highland Park 12 is typically cut and bottled at 40% ABV, the Orkneyinga Legacy edition was bottled at its marrying strength of 46% ABV without chill-filtration, giving it a much punchier, richer flavor profile dominated by European and American sherry casks. Let’s be real for a second. We all understand why brands keep their core ranges bottled below 46%—it’s accessible, consistent, and smooth for everyday sipping. But if you talk to any whisky purist? They’ll tell you it needs to be cask strength to truly show a distillery’s soul.
That’s why it’s so refreshing to see drop The Heather—a non-age-statement, unadulterated cask strength release that hits all the right notes. No chill-filtration, no watering down, just pure Orkney character straight from the wood. 🔥
This bottle is definitely going to be poured, shared, and thoroughly enjoyed come June 11th.

If you’ve picked up a bottle of Highland Park 12 lately, you’ve probably noticed a massive shift. The distillery has officially entered a new era, swapping the heavy, dark Viking-inspired engravings for a sleek, bright, and minimalist look that puts its Orkney roots front and center.
The new, cleaner bottle glass abandons the heavy, swirled Viking patterns, letting the natural, golden hue of the whisky do the talking.
An etched “Product of Orkney” icon is now stamped directly into the glass, celebrating the distillery’s home since 1798.
The labels feature subtle, beautiful lilac flecks paying homage to the Orcadian heather peat, paired with a wood-grain patterned box inspired by their legendary sherry-seasoned oak casks.
The new outer cartons are now 100% recyclable and FSC-certified. Pop along to our charity tasting on Thursday 11th June and find out how it’s created by master whisky maker Marc Watson.
