Hi everyone,
As many of you may already know, new regulations mean that from 1st April this year, anyone helping with Parent Council activities that involve children must hold a PVG (Protecting Vulnerable Groups) membership.
The Parent Council relies heavily on parent volunteers to run events and activities throughout the year, so we’re asking all parents to consider applying for a PVG. There is no cost to you, and the process is straightforward.
To complete an application, we simply need:
• Three forms of ID (a passport, driving licence, and a recent utility bill or bank statement are ideal)
• Your full name
• Your address
• Your date of birth
Please email these details to [email protected]
Our plan is to create a separate group for PVG-approved parents. This will allow us to quickly ask for help when volunteers are needed for events and activities.
At present, we are unfortunately unable to run a Halloween/Autumn Disco as we only have current and previous Parent Council board members who are PVG approved. To be able to safely run events like this, we need a wider pool of PVG-approved parent volunteers.
We’d also like to reassure everyone that all Parent Council board positions are currently filled. We are not looking for people to join the committee or take on organising responsibilities. The board members are already working together to plan and organise events behind the scenes. What we need is support on the day of events to help them run smoothly and safely for all of the children attending.
We understand that many parents have busy schedules, and we’re not expecting everyone to help at every event. However, if we can build a large pool of PVG-approved parents, we can share volunteering opportunities among lots of people. For example, if we had around 100 PVG-approved parents, we might only need 10–20 volunteers for any given event.
Without enough PVG-approved volunteers, unfortunately we may no longer be able to run school discos and many of the other fun events that our children enjoy. This is often a great way for us to also raise money for the school.
If you’re willing to apply for a PVG or would like more information, please get in touch. Your support really does make a huge difference and helps us continue providing these experiences for our children.
As the family inflatable day is a family event, parent helpers do not need to be PVG registered. We are still looking for helpers for this. I don’t like to beg however we want this to be a success so we can plan bigger and better things in the future.
We will be available for a chat and to answer any questions anyone has at the inflatable day. Just come and see us 🙂
Thank you,
Pitreavie Parent Council
