Rosenethe Singers, based in Dunblane with singers from far and wide, is a leading mixed-voice amateur choir in central Scotland. Matthew Passion.

Frikki Walker is the choir's Musical Director. The Rosenethe Singers are based in Dunblane and are directed by Kevin Duggan. Venues include Dunblane Cathedral, the Tolbooth and the Church of the Holy Rude, Stirling. The choir has performed some of the great choral works, including Bach's St. Matthew Passion, Mozart's Requiem, Elgar's Dream of Gerontius. The repertoire also includes music by lesser known and contemporary composers, including the Scottish premiere of Andrew Carter's Musick's Jubilee and the world premiere of Tom David Wilson's Ecce Homo. The choir also perform secular works and have collaborated on two occasions recently with Crawford Logan in programmes of music and word, the latest being a celebration titled The Spirit of Elgar. In 2009 the choir was invited to travel to Berlin to perform Britten's War Requiem with the Berliner Koncert Chor and the Embassy Singers - a collaboration which was repeated when the choirs met again to sing the work on Remembrance Sunday that year here in Dunblane Catheral. SOme members of the German choirs joined the Rosenethe Singers againthis year for the Easter concert, Bach St. The Rosenethe Singers have also been regular performers in the annual Christmas concerts in aid of the MacMillan Cancer Fund at the Church of the Holy Rude, Stirling and at Gleneagles Hotel as well as carol singing in the Thistle Centre, Stirling in aid of Strathcarron Hospice.

Wednesday, rehearsal day, yay!!
Last week there was lots of toe-tapping during the practice of 'Step we gaily, on we go', Owain Park. Owain was commissioned to do this work by Frikki Walker and Bearsden Choir for their autumn concert in 2013 and we're delighted to have it in our forthcoming programme.

But, there was a more serious side to last Wednesday, the AGM. Thanks to those who were able to attend. Thanks to Frikki for a very positive and enthusiastic review of the last year, his first as Musical Director of the choir. Thanks to the committee and everyone who beavers away in the background to ensure the success of Rosenethe Singers. We look forward to a very successful 2026-27 season.

A wee reminder, as a charity the choir is dependent on members' fees, ticket sales, programme sales, sponsorship and donations. The costs to put on larger scale works with soloists and musicians are high. Using easyfundraising.org.uk anyone can help raise money for the choir when making purchases online. John Duncan wanted to share this first for our community. He says ...

"Cycle of the Seasons"
My sequence of songs featuring my daughter Kirsty on vocals, accompanied by piano, flute, violin. cello and Double bass is being premiered at 3pm Sunday 25th October in Ardoch Parish Church. I'd be delighted if some local folks came to share the excitement of its first performance. It is eclectic in style (with influences of folk, jazz and classical) and lyrical, tuneful and celebratory so 'good for the soul' in these troubled times. It lasts for about 40 minutes and the performance is free - so what's not to like!

Returning to our recent theme of extra-choral activities of Rosenethe Singers, one of our altos, Hazel, also sings with Glasgow Chamber Choir. Here's a lovely excerpt posted recently.
GCC have their concert coming up on 22nd November in St John's-Renfield Church, Glasgow. For those local to St Ninians in Stirling, this is the church where Rev Gary McIntyre was inducted very recently after 30y at St Ninians Old Parish Church.

Remember, no rehearsal this evening but keep practising at home, please!

A version of Happy Birthday for our Tony, at rehearsal's end last night! Thank you for sharing your evening with us all 🍺. Rehearsal was a workout; a myriad of music, eras, sight-reading, singing, recall, musical nuances, and Frikki's chat about Flat VII chords and the movies...always a school night!

Strathcarron Singers' autumn concerts have a Scottish theme and are coming up next week, in Alva and Bridge of Allan. The choir will also be singing this afternoon in Lecropt Kirk during Stirling Doors Open Day.
